Hi,
I'm Clementine; 38 years old (and starting to feel it, quadruple yikes), single mom since 2002 to DS almost 9 and DD almost 7. I live about an hour from Geneva in Switzerland, but am originally from the UK. I came over here for my job in 1992, and never left.
I am a translator, working with French, Spanish and Italian; and am currently taking German classes. Initially, I just wanted to be able to communicate better with my SO's (German) family, but I am starting to make real progress, and am feeling so motivated that I may take further lessons with the aim of using German in my work long-term. I've given myself two years to get up to scratch, and then my next challenge will be Arabic. I love the sound of the Arabic language, and am fascinated by the thought of unravelling the mysteries of the Arabic alphabet.
I have been with my SO, Monkey, for a year-and-a-half. He is a Younger Man by six-and-a-half years (lucky, lucky me!!!) and is wonderful. He moved in with us in October last year, and I finally feel like I have a family. He is great with the kids, and they love him, and he is great with me - I am fairly feisty and can be unreasonable at times, and he seems to have an unending supply of patience. Meeting Monkey gave me the boost I needed to sort out my money problems and debts incurred after my divorce. I was spiralling out of control, but his love encouraged me to get back on track and I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. He makes me want to be a better person.
I am lucky to have a great exh. We split up simply becaue we weren't happy together, but he takes full credit for being a good person and great dad. He now lives in the South of France, about five hours' drive from here, but he faithfully comes up to collect the kids every two weeks and, although it's quite a trek for them, they look forward to seeing him. The first couple of years after we separated were a little bit tense between us, but things are cool now, and he and Monkey are very civil and respectful to each other. I am very lucky.
I am very happy where I am right now. In an ideal world, I would have liked to have had a child with Monkey, but it's not to be, and we are so lucky with the two of "ours" that I have managed to turn the page. Sometimes I have a little "baby sigh" but it goes away fairly quickly.
I was a long-time lurker on this board and then decided to start posting at the beginning of the year. Haven't been around much for the last couple of weeks though, have had some health issues with my dad, my DS and myself which have been taking up most of my thoughts.
That's about it for me!
Clem xx
