I voted other, so here's my story. Back in 2000 when my divorce was final, I refinanced my house to get my ex's name off of it because I bought him out and I was keeping the house. I asked an attorney I was working for to recommend someone to do the refinance, and he gave me Mark's name. When he did the refinance, it was a five-year adjustable rate mortgage with a three-year minimum (couldn't refinance until after 3 years). He just bought a townhouse at that time and had the same mortgage that I was getting into. After the deal was done, I never heard from him again. So, three years later, he called me and said that the rates were going down, that he just refinanced his mortgage, and he wanted to know if I wanted to refinance mine. That was around Christmas time last year. So, last January I was in the process of doing the refinance. Mark had a question about something, and he called me at home. He's real personable and easy to talk to. We started talking about business, then started talking about other things. We ended up talking for a long time, and then he asked me if I would go on a date with him. I had my kids three weekends in a row, so it was a while before we went on our first date, which ended up being a really good thing. In those weeks before we met, we talked a lot on the phone and got to know each other, so the first date wasn't awkward at all, it was a lot of fun. The first time we met back in 2000 it was all business; I was seeing someone and so was he. This time around, he just got out of a relationship and so did I, so the timing was good. I guess you can meet people when you least expect it.

Match.com facilitated our dating relationship, but we rode the train together for a few years. Same trains, same car, morning and night. We just didn't know we were single and looking. I saw him on Match, emailed him and the rest is history. We hit it off right away and it never felt like we met online.

We met the old fashioned way . . . at a bar LOL. Not what I would recommend but different circumstances than some. He was playing that night and I came out because it was a local place and decided that I'd like to listen to some live music. BTW, the scandalous part was that my then dh (well not so dear really by then) and dd were home in bed but h knew where I was. Anyway, we started talking on a break and I didn't get that he was interested in me or hitting on me at all until he said that I should let him buy me dinner sometime. I turned him down showing him by wedding ring (it didn't look like a traditional wedding ring, more of a fashion ring so he didn't know. He had looked). Anyway fast forward several months later we ended up dating. I'd love to tell you the whole story if you're interested but don't want to monopolize the board. Email me if you want details.

ROTFL!!!! This cracked me up.

edited to add: Andrea, we always love these stories. I especially like your's. Why don't you go ahead and post it? You can just put it in the "off topics" folder if you want. It won't feel like you're "monopolizing" at all!

Judy:

Thanks for asking. I'm doing pretty good. I'm feeling much better, physically and emotionally than I did during the holidays. As for Mark and I, things are going very well. I don't even like to post stuff like that because of the bad luck I've had in the past with men, when something is going well, I'm always looking over my shoulder to look for the bad that usually happens. My kids will be with their dad this weekend, so were making plans to see each other. He called me Friday night. He was on the train downtown. He was going out with a friend and he was going to stay at his house because they had a big training seminar all day Saturday for work. When I answered the phone, he said, "I just wanted to tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing you next weekend". He's really different this time around. When I talked to him Saturday night, he thanked me again for forgiving him and giving him another chance. (I think he says that almost every time he talks to me). He's so into me, it's almost scary. What a change. I try not to think too much, I just try to enjoy the moment.

That is all good. Just enjoy!! And keep us posted. His call was sweet.

I know what you mean about the holidays - they were hard on me too and I am so glad to have them behind me now.

Well, I met mine online, but....... not the normal online dating way. I was looking for more penpals from Iraq and he contacted me. In the last few years, I have had over a dozen of soldiers as penpals over their and most of them had returned, so I was looking for more recruits. LOL.
He responded, he's back home and safe in Texas now, but only for a short moment now. We started off just as great friends and in a very short time realized, this is very unnormal. I certainly did, compared to all the other men I write. This man and I connected totally. He says I am him, but with boobs. LOL! Our lives have been totally parrallel. That we didn't meet sooner, makes no sense. Between Texas and Germany, we should of met a hundred times over. I am going to see him in April this year. We are counting down the weeks, and he is keeping a close ey one me, because, I get SEVERE cold sweats and freak out sessions, when I think I could get closer to anyone. I am already starting to think about getting out of this relationship again. The idea that I have never met him, and that I am being a total idiot, may have something to do with it. So: back to the subject: He was a penpal soldier from Iraq.
