ages concert?

OK MOMS! opinions wanted:

Daughter is 8. She totally DIGS Hillary Duff, Avril Lavigne, Ryan Cabrerra, Switchfoot, and A couple of other bands that are playing at the local radio station's Holiday Concert. It is an all ages concert, kids under 2 admitted free. It's starts at 4:30pm on a Sunday. Most of the bands playing appeal to a young crowd (we're talking teens and pre-teens). I am aware of the type of music all of these singers and bands play (I am a big fan of switchfoot myself!) and don't think it's unsuitable for her.

I don't anticipate (hopefully) a lot of drunken, pot smoking moshing groups there or anything like that.

I have two tickets, reserved seating. I want to take my dd as a mommy/me day. I didn't go to my first concert until I was 11 (the Go-Go's).

Is 8 too young for this?

I say go for it. Those are generally "Teen artists" and the chances of drunk/pot smoking adults being there is unlikely. The average age for that audience will probably be around 10-12 years old (so they will be accompanied by parents). I wish I could do something like this with my kids.

Now, if you were to say a "Staind" concert, I'd say no way!! Hilary Duff, Ryan Cabrerra, et al are relatively safe I believe.

Have fun and save money--T shirts are a fortune!!!

I think it depends on the child. I, personally, haven't taken my dd (10) to any concerts yet because she's just not that into pop music. SHe likes Avril. That's about it. And I offered to take her to see Avril last year, but she wasn't that into it so I figured why spend the $?

I probably would go for it. Knowing the bands, knowing you'll be there anyway, I think you'll have a good time.

Thanks! You’re right, Staind is a FAR cry from Hilary Duff LOL

And no kidding about t-shirts! sheesh! I'll buy her one at Target instead. ;)

Thanks Tara!
She knows about the concert but has not asked to go. But during the summer, she really wanted to go to the Hilary Duff concert and asked me about a million times if she could go, unfortunately the timing was bad.

She is very much into music, both pop music on the radio, and the music program at school. She has a beautiful singing voice and my nephew taught her how to play drums last year. When she plays the drums at my sister's house, you would not believe it is coming from a little girl who barely weighs 55lbs! She has also recently asked me if she can take piano lessons.

She is a really good girl, does great in school, well behaved, responsible. I'm really proud of her :)

Go! Go! Go!

You will both have so much fun!

I was 8 at my first concert . . . Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream Tour - - - ok - - - so it's a far cry from Hillary Duff and Avril Lavine (FAR cry!) but still . . .

My next concert was Huey Lewis & The News . . . The Hip to Be Square tour . . . I went with my mom . . . then off to Hall & Oates . . . and the list goes on and on from there!

I took my niece to see Brittany Spears back in 1998 - when she was cute, ya know? My niece was 4 - and just LOVED her!

I think that because you are familiar with the performers and approve, it shouldn't be a big deal. Especially beause you'll be there.

The Go-Go's! OMG! My first was at age 13 for Huey Lewis and the News! The "Stuck With You" days! Hard to believe how long ago that was!

Go and have a good time! Heck, I'd take dd to a Lynard Skynard concert if we could afford it LOL. Seriously, that's her favorite band! Okay, maybe not but then again . . . the crowd at those classic rock shows tend to be 35-40 and above and typically are pretty respectful of there being a child around, even the burly biker types check their language which is pretty funny. But then we're a rock and roll family and this is the same kid who can fall asleep in front of the drums if dh is practicing. We take her with to all the jam sessions and practices. But the scenario you're describing sounds perfectly appropriate. It starts in the afternoon so it's not like you're taking her to a concert at midnight, while I'm only sort of familiar with one of the acts you mentioned, Hillary Duff, it sounds pretty appropriate. And truthfully, my dd has taken a liking to Hillary Duff from watching the Disney channel and she seems like a pretty healthy role model. I think you and she would both cherish the experience.

My first concert wasn't until I was 13 and it was Bob Seger with my mom.

COOL! Go for it!

I went to two concerts recently....I smelled Pot ONCE in both concerts... someone snitched on them and they were removed ASAP...leaving five very attractive seats that we quickly took over. (No WE didn't tattle on them)

Thanks everyone! I just told her tonight and she is PUMPED! We were sitting at dinner and she was telling me that a boy at school was teasing her because she likes Hilary Duff. And he said Hilary Duff was stupid.

I told her he was entitled to his opinion but certainly others don't feel that way about Hilary Duff and who cares what he thinks anyway, because atleast you get to see her in concert!

Her eyes lit up like saucers and she said "wwwhhhhat?" It was SO cute. :)

I can't wait. I'm totally psyched for this now too! =)
