I am so upset right now!!! I can't begin to tell you how I want to start bawling. Our kitten, who is 5 months old, may have gotten rabies. She is very very ill and they don't know what is wrong, but she was outside a week ago for half an hour

Hello,
I usually lurk around this message board and did plan on introducing myself eventually but right now I beleive I have some soothing news for you.
I was in a similair siuation wiht a dog. He was too young for his shots yet when he viciously bit my then DS2 on the face mere milimetres from his eye (the dog was part Shepard and part huskey and was large for his age)becasue he did not have any shots yet the OSPCA required me to quarentine the dog for 10 days. I immedidately had the bite looked at by a doctor who said ot looked fine. However, 3 days later I went to check on the quarentined dog and its eyes were rolling in its head and it was breathing funny, shortly therafter it died. Imagine my absolute panic at this turn in events. The health unit was called in adn the dog was autopsied adn tissues was sent for Rabies testing. the test results would not be known for at least 24 hours adn the debate was whether my son should begin Rabie shots. I was then told by the head of the Health Unit for all of ONtario that it was safe for us to wait although the dog bit had occured almost a week ago by that point. I was very, very scared but I was repeatedly reassured that rabies in humans is very slow acting adn we had pelnty of time to initiate the shots if was deemed necessary. The dog was not rabid adn it tunred out we did not need the shots but I thought it would help you know that no one panicked and most definately no noe said my son was going to die. Iknow it is a scary thing to deal wiht but even if the kitten was rabid your family has plenty of time to recieve thr proper shots. My family went through allt he same emotions, however we did have a reassuring Health officer not a fear monger like you spoke to.
Anyway, I hope this helped.
Welcome and thank you so much for delurking to tell me that! I was much more relieved after you told me that. What a scare that must have been for
