I know we have been doing a "wednesday woes" lately, but this week, how about an Excitement thread??
Tell us what you are excited about this week (or whatever that is coming up for you!)
-------------------------------------------
For me, I'm excited that I will get the kids back on Friday, after them being gone with their dad for just over a month! It'll be neat to be able to smush them and kiss them and tickle them again. It'll be cool having them around to do things with and go places with. Although I have TRULY enjoyed my Mommy break this month, I do miss them too. But I have to say, I needed that Mommy break after having them pretty much 24/7 the rest of the year. (I know Cat will understand that one!) But I am looking forward to getting back to trying to be the best Mom I can be. The last time I was with them, I felt like I was a bit frazzled and falling short on the good-Mom part. I'm hoping to improve on that.
I'm also excited that the new college semester is about to start up again! Which means I go back to work again- and again, while I've enjoyed the summer off, I'm looking forward to being back at work again and DOING something important with my time. I do love having a professional identity and don't like going without it.
I'm excited that Hiker is making plans to go to a football game of my old alumni university this fall! We did one game last fall and had a great time... and now he's wanting to do it again! :-)
Speaking of football... I'm THRILLED that football is starting back up this week! I don't even care if it's pre-season and probably boring- I'm just glad SOMETHING is back that I can enjoy watching, sports-wise! lol It's been a loooong slow summer without the NBA or NFL to keep me entertained. ;-) Goooo Cowboys!!!!! hehe
I'm sure I can think of more if I kept on typing, but those are the main things right now.

Something to be excited about... Good thread.... HMMMM... Well, let's see. Actually my baby boy started gymnastics this week. It was so cool. He had his very first class ever (6yo) and has been asking about it for some time. It was way more advanced than I had expected as they did all the apparatuses quickly and he did very well. I couldn't believe my baby boy could hang upside down on those rings, not using the ropes for stability, and fold his little body in half touching his nose to his knees. Very, very cool. So I am very excited about that.
My other son will be starting back to soccer next week. He loves team sports and is really good at it. Not the best fundamentally but does really well in a team environment, is encouraging to other and just has a good time.
That is fun for me. I love running them to and fro to all their activities. Having the excitement of them learning new things.
I'm also trying to make a decision about school. At this point, I think I am leaning towards the nursing. I love helping people, and think that I'm pretty good with people in general so that is good. I should be able to sign up for a few classes and see how I do. Science is not my best subject, but I'm reasonably intelligent and will work hard. I think in the long run that is a career that will work well for both me and my family. We are doing fine now but I will have lots of college to pay for and want us to do very well, not just fine.
That is it for me.

I thnk nursing is a great field to go into! But that is speaking as an RN myself- and a bit biased. ;-)
But really- the opportunities for so many different areas in nursing is outstanding. You could work with kids, or geriatrics, or surgery, or critical care or home health or doctor's office nursing, corporate nursing, mental health, etc, etc, etc... it just goes on and on. You can be as hands-on with your job or as 'desk' as you want- depending on what you're interested in, and your education. (sorry for the poor grammar here- I'm typing on full-speed coffee here- lol)
Just find something you really LOVE- because the people I know who went into nursing thinking only of the money, ended up totally burned out. The pay can't outrank the potential stress, if you don't just LOVE the job itself.

Great post!
I am EXCITED that my children are coming back Monday after having been gone 2 months! I can't wait to see how grown up they are! I know they grew like weeds!
I am glad to be going to the beach this weekend again
I am glad when my trainings are over this week because my work has piled up too much
I am glad when the girls start playing soccer, because I love to watch them play
I am glad that football is starting too
I have a lot of different things that I am happy about right now. Things are going well in all areas. Just nice and calm, no drama.
OK, quick question then shrimpy, since you are a nurse. I have a bach. degree in another field. I could go to the community college and get an AAS in nursing and then take the test. Or I could go to a university and get a BSN from the get go (longer and more expensive to get to my goal though). I can later convert to BSN I'm sure, but I think that I could get a good job with the AAS and work towards the BSN later if that wouldn't affect the ability to get a job initially. I know it is wide open as to types of work, that is one thing that interests me about it. I love helping people. Anyhow I live in an area that has two major research hospitals. The opportunities seem endless.
Thanks for any thoughts.
That's a tough one- and only you can decide that one.
I've always told students thinking about nursing that if they can afford the longer road in getting a BSN and that is truly what they want eventually- then go for it and go straight for the BSN. I know many who consider getting the Associate first, then do the BSN later- but once they get the Associate and start working, they find that getting the time to go back for a BSN quite hard.
So I tell them that if they are able to 'go poor' just a bit longer but get that BSN now- then go for the degree. And then the world is wide open to you, with less time spent as a student in the long run.
I know of moms in the nursing school where I work- and they are getting the Associate now- and wanting a BSN (and more) later- but they just can't wait for the ability to work. They need to be able to work as an RN sooner, so that is their option. And that works, too.
Just look at your own finances and time frames... and decide if you can afford to (in both money and time) take the longer and more expensive road for the BSN now, or not.
I chose to go straight for my BSN years ago because I could afford the time and the money. But that was back when I was single, no kids- and the paramedic pay I had while going through nursing school- was plenty to keep me going. With kids now... that would be a totally different situation!
So much to weigh- but you just go the route that works for you. I've seen others do both- and neither is best. It just has to be what works FOR YOU.

Thanks Shrimpy. I have so many different certifications, degrees and whatnot, I know if I see an advantange to getting the BSN later and I'm enjoying nursing I will do it. Right now I just want to get to it. It may take me a bit but I will finish and get there. I will probably sign up for some classes this fall just to get the ball rolling. At least that way I'm not continuing to mull it over and not do anything.

I'll toss my two cents here because one of my sisters did the whole RN/BSN thing, and for her the AS/RN would have been better.
You are right the classes would be much more challenging at the university level even with the same basic content. I can take some of the required classes this fall and see how I do with the science. I have a good science geek friend that may be able to help me along as well. Classes are also much cheaper at the CC level. I think a class is less than $100 at the community college and around $400 for the same class at the university.
There is a great demand for nurses here that is why I don't know if it will make a difference. I also don't know if I would have to have a BSN to enter a MSN later. I have a bachelor's degree just not in nursing. All that would be a ways off and I'm already closing in on 40 much too quickly for me.
Thanks for your 2cents it is appreciated.

I'm excited about seeing this woman I've communicated with on MySpace for coffee today.
I'm excited about going to a city parks concert with a woman I met at a friend's party tomorrow.
I'm excited about clearing some blocks that are preventing me from experiencing happiness.
I'm excited (and scared) about doing the Portland Providence Bridge Pedal (10 bridge route in Portland that covers 24 miles with my 18 yr old son. Neither of us have been on a bike this year.. YIKES!
I'm excited about seeing David Sandbourn and Tower of Power at the Oregon Zoo this Sunday with a (hot babe) friend of mine.

Thanks for starting this thread Shrimpy. I am a great believer in focusing on the positive rather than the bad stuff and complaining about it.
I think this is what "The Secret" is about, i.e. manifesting on what we focus on.
