I'm just a bundle of stress right now. I know last year I moved from NY to Florida, but at least I had family helping me on the NY end and then my mother when I got here. Now I have to do it ALL alone and I'm so damn sick of it.

I'm trying to hire movers and I just don't know which ones to hire. I hired one company already, but then another company finally called me back with a quote. Their quote is a bit lower, but then on top of it there is a charge of $1 per box. In the end it's probably all the same, but I'm still confused and frustrated! One is a company my boss used twice, but that was over 3 years ago. The ones I already hired is a small town hick type company, but my friend used them 2 weeks ago and she said they were good.

Moving is a very stressful thing. I think if we were to rate the stress of moving, it would rank right up there with marriage, divorce, and death.

So, you'll get it done. Work on a room at a time, and just do it. Don't think about how much there is left to do, or how much you haven't got done yet, instead think about what you have accomplished.

You'll get through this, and we're all here when you need to vent!

Moody, thinking of moving, then thinking again

Rent-A-Husband....I LOVE THAT!
I'm moving at the end of the month and I know EXACTLY what you're talking about! If you find the company that rents hubbies let me know.

I know exactly how you feel! I moved over the last week, and said almost the exact same thing about renting a husband. If only we were physically stronger, we MIGHT be able to do it ourselves! Moving is just so overwhelming, I've done it three times in the last year with four kids - Don't ask it's a long sad story, I'm still hoping for my happy ending. Hang in there, and don't be afraid to ask for help from friends. It's hard to do, but definitely can help alleviate some of the stress. Good Luck!

Hang in there Liz - You are right it s&cks! But it will all work out and you will be in your new place before you know it. Then you can take your time and unpack. There's no need to rush. I moved two weeks ago and I still have boxes that need to be unpacked. It doesn't bother me though. My daughters and I are there. We're happy and healthy so it's all good. As far as having a husband to help...it would be nice but my reality was that he never packed a single box for any of our four moves so I knew that I wasn't missing much.

You will get through this. Good luck - as moody said...pack one room at a time and before you know it...you'll be done. I am thinking about you...

I feel your pain and frustration, I go through it quite a bit myself. There's a company called Handyman.com that's supposed to be good for repair jobs and misc. stuff. I haven't tried them yet, but I will call them in the future, when I need them.

Good luck.

I hear ya, Liz!!! I've moved SOOO many times in my life, it's not even funny! But I used to do it often when it was just me and MUCH less cr@p to drag around! Now that I have the kids and a million more things in my possession... moving is just a nightmare!

I have had some good friends who have helped me move many times, and I totally appreciate their help every time! My brothers will try to help when they can, too. So whenever anyone I know has to move, I try to help with all the 'dirty work' as well- because I know how invaluable that is!!

Man, Liz- if I lived closer, I'd be right there helping you pack and move! It's such a CHORE! And then I'd help you celebrate being DONE once it's over, too! ;-)

Hope it all goes smoothly for you,

Moving. I am so sorry. It's awful.

I moved my son, two birds and two dogs and cat in a 26' uhaul from WA to PA towing my car on a trailer. It took a week, a blow out, one rear view mirror, and some shubs at a motel parking lot.

Then I had to move out of the moving van in 1 day. It was 116 in the van and 85% humidity, no lie. I measured. I have a harpsichord that I can't move by myself so I put up a sign by the road saying : Help for 10 minutes, get $20. Someone stopped in about half hour and helped for free.

It was all desparate and lonely, but then setting up a new place does have a refreshing feel.

Best of luck. If you find the web adddy of rent a hubby, let me know. I have some problems with my car I can't figure out. :)
