I Got a Little Change in my Pocket,

goin' jingalingaling. Gonna call you on the telephone, gonna give you a ring. But each time I try, I get the same ol' thing, always no huggy, no kissy, until I get a wedding ring. my honey, my baby, don't put my love upon no shelf, she said "don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself"...
Even though I don't necessarily want a wedding ring, this song fits my mood today. I played hooky from work today, ran a couple of errands this morning, and the spent the day skiing.
I had such a blast! I went alone, a friend was meeting me later this afternoon, but I arrived late morning, and skiied my heart out. There was plenty of time for flirting with the employees and other skiiers. Nothing major, a couple of cute guys, but I was so into getting better on the slopes that I wasn't overly concerned with meeting anyone.
However, I could have taken a couple of offers of a drink at the pub, and seen where it went. The thing is, though, I simply didn't want to. The guys seemed nice, and I know we have skiing in common. But I really just wanted to ski. Odds are, it wouldn't have gone anywhere anyhow, as they didn't ask for my number. My name is printed on my pass, so they can look me up if they're that interested. I wasn't, particularly.
By the time my girlfriend got there, it was almost time to leave so I had a drink with her. A couple of guys sitting next to us were definitely making eye contact, but by that point, I had been flirting all day and was just ready to get warm and relax.
It doesn't hurt that I know I look cute in my ski bunny garb, and having mastered a couple of the slopes (and disembarking the lift!) makes me more confident with myself. I know I can handle something as simple as a man if I can handle whipping down the mountain without maiming myself.
I'm in love with skiing! I wish I could play hooky every day and simply ski. The morning and early afternoon was the best, since the kids were all at school and it was mostly older people who were actually skiing, rather than snowboarding. I really enjoyed myself when the lift opoerator told me I should move to the next level trail. What a confidence boost!
I did mention to Double D that I was skiing today, but very casual-like. He immediately said, "oh, I'd LOVE to go skiing, but my sister and niece and nephew are coming to visit. Too bad you can't do it Friday." I have too much going on at work tomorrow to take the day off, and besides, I wasn't necessarily inviting him- I'd already made my plans, and I wasn't about to change them. So, maybe another time we'll go together, but today I had a blast skiing solo.
This might have been the first thing I did completely on my own. I wasn't with friends, I didn't run into anyone I knew, I didn't have a date, it was just me and the fresh powder. It was incredibly empowering, especially since I did so well!
moody, still flying high

Woohooo! I love it! I'm so happy you had a great time today! I also love the song you quoted at the beginning. I used to love that song in my partying hey-day way-back-when.
Sounds like you had the empowering and recharging good time I did when I went geocaching by myself about a year and a half ago! I was down in South Texas for a weekend by myself (had just dropped off the boys so they could attend my ex and his NW's wedding)- and I geocached and hiked my little heart out all weekend, all over the local little town and the surrounding hill country! I absolutely LOVED it. I wish I had more Me-Time weekends like that, no dates, no kids, no chores, no internet, NO NOTHING but me and what I want to do.
I might just have to plan myself a trip like that again. :-) One day, I might have to try skiing, too. I've never done it! I bet it's SUCH a thrill.

Woot woot, Moody!
Hey, Moody, sounds like you had so much fun. What a great way to spend a day off work.
Was hoping to do the same thing myself tomorrow, but I have been sidetracked by a work thing with Monkey. Never mind, it's cute that he wants me there with him.
There are loads of ski resorts only about half an hour from where I live, and fresh snow has just fallen this week, for the first time this winter. The ski resort people are so happy, as they had lost a lot of business, due to the lack of snow. Now everyone is raring to go, and I will dust off my snowboard within the next couple of weeks and hit the pistes! YAY!!!
Are you planning any more ski expeditions this weekend? How far do you live from the slopes?
Clem xx
I love what you write here. Your head is in such a good place. And a day like that is what every single woman needs - it is like a big ray of sunshine for the spirit. Something to lift you and make you forget of all of life's drudgery for one day.
And of course the way you write this is quite good - love that song!!And all of your writings and songs!!
You are such a joy to our board!!
PLUS you kept DD wondering what you were up to and you were independent as heck!! GOOD!!!!!
The ski resort I bought the season pass at is about 2 miles from my house. Also, since I never have to buy a lift ticket or rent skis, I can simply hop out of the car, buckle on my boots, and even if I only ski for an hour, or less, it is so worth it!
Since the mountain is basically on my way home from work, I could ski a lot more often. But the kids are still little- they're taking a lesson next weekend, but I'm not good enough to teach them yet. So, I could be going a lot more often than I do, but I feel guilty getting a sitter.
We also finally have a little snow, but even worse than that, it was 60 here less than a month ago- so they couldn't even make snow. Now they're making it around the clock, and everyone's gearing up for it. I have always hated the cold, which is actually why I wanted to learn to ski- I wanted to have something to do during the winter so I wouldn't hate it so much. Of course, this year, we've only had "winter" for the past two weeks, but maybe it'll last a long time!
I am hoping I can get a couple of hours in tomorrow, and Sunday I have plans with the kids, but living so close makes it easy to pop in for a trip or two down the mountain- if I can get over my guilt of getting a sitter.
Moody, still feeling great today

Our local Resort will give a huge discount to season pass holders on the next years pass if they have a bad season. So maybe you should ask about that, most of them figure a season pass holder will ski an average 4 times a month so times that by however many months your Resort is normally open and say hey I feel jipped this year cause I could only get X amount of time on the slopes when normally I try to put in XX, how about a discount for next years pass?
Just a thought, Mt. Ashland has had great snow this year and it hasn't been too windy so no discounts for me next year.
Jer
Jer, thanks for the tip! I actually got my pass at a HUGE discount because I'm going to school. I also bought it well before the season would have begun, which made it even more wallet-friendly.
I am hoping to get in some time this weekend, in between working and school, and kids, but if not, being so close means i can easily find the time. Having already spent the money is an another incentive- I want to make sure I go and get my money's worth! Loving it is an added bonus.
Moody, who was too cold to be a ski bunny tonight
