I met a wonderful man today....

Today I went to church for the first time in months (xbf didn't believe in going to church). I just knew I had to go and I even drove 30 miles to go to the church my mom and sisters attend. The guest speaker is a man named Nick Vujicic from Australia, who was born without arms or legs. My sister is dating a member of the ministry at this church, so I had the amazing opportunity to meet with Nick before hearing him speak. He greets people with hugs (obviously he can't shake hands). I was so nervous. I'm uncomfortable around handicapped people, not because I think less of them, but because I don't know what to say or how to act. But the moment I gave him a hug and looked into his eyes I felt his amazing strength and felt so comfortable. And I was so touched by his story. Instead of feeling sorry for himself he uses his disability to preach all over the world about using your circumstances for the good of God. If you'd like to hear about this amazing man's story, please go to www.lifewithoutlimbs.org

I've read enough stories on this board to know that a lot of you are finding yourselves in some really difficult circumstances. This man puts in all in perspective and his message is full of hope and love. Hearing him speak today changed my life.

Cathy,

I don't think anyone here judged you. I am sorry you felt that way.

Only you can decide if you are ready for dating. It was our intent to caution you about dating too soon because of the heart ache it can cause and because we have made the same mistakes.

When you make a post to the board, you get all kinds of advice and stories. It is your job to take or leave that advice.

The women on here speak from their hearts with concern and they give their time to type to you.

I don't think this original poster meant to be rude in her post about people with disabilities. She was truly inspired and I have enjoyed reading her post. You attacked her personally for the advice she has given you and for her story. I am not sure if you realize that it is against terms of service for this board to make a personal attack on someone. I urge you to edit your original post so that it is not attacking the poster.

This is a great story and an example for us all that we have to be happy with what we have and we have to make the most of our current situation.

What a lovely and inspiring experience. I am glad you posted this.

It is also great to hear that you are getting out and going to church and doing things for YOU after you had such a bad experience with your exbf. Good things are in store for you!

Please remember that anytime you post on a public message board there are bound to be some replies you agree with and some you disagree with. Simply choose what you feel is the most appropriate and ignore the rest. Love & Sex is a large channel filled with people of different beliefs, and experiences. We appreciate keeping this debate and discussion respectful, and just wanted to remind everyone to choose your words carefully and address comments to the topic at hand, and not at another individual. However, just because someone disagrees with your point of view doesn't necessarily mean that they are personally attacking you. If you disagree with the message someone else has offered, please state your opinion respectfully.

Remember, the Rules of Play ask us to "agree to disagree, respectfully".

Agree to Disagree, Respectfully: We invite and encourage a healthy exchange of opinions; disagreements are okay. If you disagree with a member's post or opinion during a live chat, by all means, challenge the opinion. However, any challenge must be given with a sense of respect and caring for the other person. The real objective of community is to understand each other, not to attack others and convince them that you're right. Name calling, insults, "flaming" and attacks are not appropriate and will not be tolerated. Agree to disagree respectfully.

When you see posts you feel cross the line or violate Terms of Service please click 'report a violation' at the bottom of the message. We make every effort to keep our boards free of troublesome posts but we need your help to do so, so please report when you see them. After you've reported the post we ask that you ignore it, and resist the urge to respond so we can handle things behind the scenes. We may not remove every post that is reported, but we will continue to monitor the situation to try to keep things from getting out of hand. Responding to disruptive posts can contribute to the disruption, and responding to an attacking post to defend yourself or someone else could also result in your post being removed for attack.
