I was just thinking about how many lonely people there are out there. SO many nice, funny, goodlooking, average looking, wonderful people who have not met anyone. Is it any wonder the internet has been such a boom.. there are many dating sites. I was thinking of creating a dating site but instead of people posting their pictures online I would start with a satellite office, where members would COME INTO the office to register, and I would have staff take their pictures (eliminates phony pics being posted), as well as a background check and then after they have passed all of those requirements they would make a short video ala Love Connection Style where in 3 minutes they would say something about themselves. Then members would have their emails routed through the company's site (like ivillage does) to ensure saftey. Then if they felt comfortable giving out their email, etc they could do so at a later time.

Well, fairydust, this certainly would make the online process more enticing - but it would require a big effort and lots of money!!

If you were doing background checks, there would be a presumption that you were ensuring your client's safety. If anything went wrong, you could be sued.

This kind of business sounds like a traditional dating service.

There would be no presumption of safety in that I would not be responsible if they went on a date, etc. But at least there would be the presumption that the person has no criminal history, is not married, is who they say they are (for which I would be willing to be assume). I don't think it's quite like a traditional dating service in that you still have access and communication via the net but you already know that those preliminary safety guards are in place. I would of course, discuss the liabilities, etc with a lawyer. I would test market this in one city just to see how it goes.
