Just wanted to shout a bit - finally resolved the last few details for our divorce yesterday!! All that's left is for me to review the final write up and then contact the judge in writing if anything in the document doesn't match what was decided upon yesterday. Then I can focus on refinancing the house cause that will be the easiest way to come up with the cash I need to pay my ex.

Until that decree is recorded, hold the celebration. I got my decree in late Dec. 2005, 2 weeks later when no objections were filed by psycho boy, I celebrated my freedom, joined Match and started moving on. But noooo, a week later I get the dreaded call from my attorney that my now supposed X has filed a motion to set aside the decree and it was accepted by the court in spite of being past the deadline and that I was willing to agree to his desired change in our daughter's custody plan. This has now dragged on over a year. We had a court date set for tomorrow, but his attorney (quite the little churner of fees through ridiculous amounts of correspondance) filed a motion to set aside, today, due to all issues being resolved. Well not quite but the ones HE was concerned about have been resolved and have been for a while. So maybe, just maybe, I'll get my decree of disolution recorded next week and I will truly be divorced. I've got the champagne in the fridge. Hope we both can have a little virtual ivillage party next week.

How would you alter "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings" to fit this situation?

You are preaching to the choir, but feel free...we all know how it goes. Sorry, but I sincerely doubt he'll follow through on anything the judge ordered and it will continue til he totally pisses off the judge and gets jail time for contempt.

I don't know how it is in RI, but in AZ the family court judges only have a 2 year bench, then they rotate to another bench, say probate or civil cases. So, even though my attorney was hopeful we had at least a shot on some attorneys fees, we have been reassigned to a new judge. This new guy is lazy, won't bother to get himself up to speed on the particulars of my case and he thinks stay at home moms are bon bon eating, spoiled sponges. He won't care about how I supported psycho boy through med school or helped pay off all those student loans when I too was working full time, or how much I worked in establishing the X's practice. No, all he'll see is I am living on my alimony/child support and poor suffering Dr. dad has to work all the time to pay me. The fact Psycho boy WANTED me to stay home til D3 started school also doesn't matter. So hopefully, it's now over and the decree will record next week. If I can just go 2 months w/out any mail or phone calls from my attorney, it will be progress.

Yes, the legal system sucks. I no longer care if it's right or fair, I just want to be done with it. Seriously, that champagne is waiting. I look forward to that decree coming in the mail.
