LOL! Just kidding! LOL, that must of terrified everyone! BUT I do have great news!
I finished packing my first 10 boxes for the States. They are going out THIS Friday. YAHOOOOOO! It's my official start to leaving this Godforsaken Country after becoming my own prisoner of 10yrs here. Ladies, this is a really big cause to celebrate. Once those boxes are shipped, that's it, no going back. I have to get them back and they can't be shipped back, because one of my old pen pals who has become a great friend and his wife are doing this for me, but he is heading back out to Iraq for 12 months and has to put his things in storage as well and his wife is going to stay with her family at first in California. If I want to ship them back, I have to first fly to South Carolina and do it myself.
By the way: Texas is out, North Carolina is in. Long storey, but my girls are thrilled and so am I. I will be in NC on the coast, for a week with my Aunt, Cousins and a friend of mine to do some property searches and job interviews, before heading down to Texas to see more family and friends.
Things are looking up. Getting organized, Court order to nail both fathers is going, Financial situation is in order again, I'm still dateless, my mother is pushing me to move and being very very positive about the whole move, work is work and I am keeping a low profile. LOL.
What is not new, but I am enjoying: I still have that little crush going over 3 months now. However, he isn't any material for anytime soon, his career makes it difficult for him to stay in one spot (military medical triage he's gone ALL the time around the world), but he does fascinate me, he is into me, he's mature, good looking, 37, but no official date, no anything and I think that's all it ever will be a little fantasy. We talk, we write and I am enjoying the flirt, but he knows I don't want to get involved in a relationship and he respects my decision. Still he does try every so often. LOL! What's even more fun is that he's my secret. LOL
Right now I am concentrating on just getting out of here and not starting anything with anyone ANYWHERE. I still don't want a relationship and I still don't want to date. Not even a vacation fling. Nope. I even gave up the FWB. He called me last week because I haven't kept my normal monthly schedule in the two months and I told him I just don't have any time until I get back at the end of May. Sooooooo, maybe by then he'll forget about me. BUT! I don't want to burn my bridges and tell him I am no longer interested, so I'll just play it by ear. LOL
Sorry I cried Wolf, but it just felt so right at the moment!

Your subject line definitely got my attention. WTG on the move! I've heard that so many people like NC. I've known a few people to move down there and really like it. There are jobs there around Charlotte and the cost of living isn't too expensive. Yeah, and the beach is nice too!
Your voice is so strong, now Catherine!! Excellent.
And your title is hilarious - I thought - how in the heck did she do that - and does she know what she is doing? And who? and then I clicked on your message. You are a very funny girl!!
Congrats to all of this good stuff. My how a picture can change so fast - I am sure glad it did for you.
Go girl!
It's like total opposites. No matter what I do, I'll never figure them out and that goes vice versa for them. LOL. I'm glad for my peace and quiet.
god Cat, what're you trying to do???? I was AVOIDING THIS THREAD for a while this morning, trying to gather myself so I would reply nicely but honestly with an "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR GOURD?????!!!???"
LOL!!!! You kill me and I owe you for that one.
On a different note, HUGE congrats to you for getting as far as you have with packing and getting ready to go. I am very excited for you. And while I am SURE Texas is a nice place for some (and you've been there) I am pretty partial to the Carolina's myself. As long as you can take the humidity, it's sooooo incredibly beautiful there. I LOVE the Smokies and North Carolina has some wonderful country in them. Asheville is lovely. I am glad your girls are excited. This sounds like a fun and exciting and GOOD move for all of you.
I can't believe how close you are to making this happen. You've been talking about it for years!
So, what happens to your mom? Are you finally going to be able to break free of that responsibility?
OMIGOD...ok, I'm with Beck on the "NO FREAKING WAY!" reaction to that title. phew
My reaction to the content of your message is YES! Way to go.
It made me think of an interview I saw with Queen Latifah...where she said she bought herself a platinum ring and wears it to remind her that she is married to HERSELF! And that any man who wants her is goint to have to WIN that spot on her finger...it's not just an empty space.
:)
I like that!

That is REALLY cool!! I like that a lot!!
Maybe one of you Ladies can help me. I NEED to know what I need to ask for on a yearly basis to make a netto of at least $2,400 a month. Single with two kids, how much of a tax break do we get that I don't under sell myself. I can't make less then the above amount. I was thinking between 32,000- 34,000 a year is ok to get that 2,400? I am now making over 75 Thousand, so their is no way that anyone in their right mind would pay that to me. Don't forget, I pay 48% out of my gross income, so it leaves me about half. Any thoughts or tips? The area is so popular because companies don't have to pay that much for employees.
As for the ring thing. I too wear a huge diamond wedding band that was given to me as a gift from my General Manager. It was a lost and found item that was put into a safe full of jewelery. It's worth a fortune and it would have to take a GORGEOUS engagement ring for me to give that one up, but anyway, I don't wear it for the reason QL gave, but because I don't want to be bothered anymore. Unfortunately, that still doesn't work. In Germany, men or women, don't see a wedding band as a symbol of commitment. Very very sad, but true.
Do you have any idea how much a house would cost where you are going? I would think $150K would buy a small decent house for you guys - even if it is a townhouse.
You may or may not have to put money down- the FHA has excellent no money down loans and they can sometimes roll the closing costs into the mortgage. You will have mortgage insurance when there is not at least 20% down but it is not that much and can usually be removed after 2 years.
$899 - mortgage - principal and interest (30 years, 6% interest, $150K loan)
$350 - estimated cost of homeowner's insurance and property tax
$400 - food and eating out per month
$200 - clothing, haircuts
$200 - phone, electricity, water
$150 - gas and car insurance
?? - car payment
?? - mad money
I am going to guess that as the head of the house with 2 kids you are going to fall into the 15% tax bracket for the IRS. That is certainly a relief from Germany! Does NC have income tax?
I think you should shoot for $3,000 take home if you can get it. I would try to get aorund or over $40K if you can. And if they offer health insurance that is great, too.
I hope this helps you somehow. Maybe others will have a better perspective for your location and situation.
