I so feel your pain! I don't have a sitter(never do), but it doesn't matter either way, as I have no one to hang with. I've lived in my area 11 years, and have no friends here. They are all married here and the women usually give me funny looks, they are not friendly at all and are very clickish, since I don't belong, I'm out. The meetups group meets on the other side of the island, and I don't have a car. My girlfriends all either hooked up, got married, moved away and all but forgot about me. They all know that I got laid off and not one has called to see how I'm doing.
The rare ocasion that I do go out I do it alone, it's the only way. I do movies and restaurants. The bars out here are either way too young or way too seedy.
I can relate Liz. My "solution" to similar situations is that I work out so much that I am too tired to feel like doing anything. I sometimes rent a video. Watching movies sometimes shift me out of a mood. I also do some "mad" posting on iVillage. I call friends as well but usually not.
Kind of sounds like my night. My kids are with their mom this weekend so FINALLY get some free time and because it's Labor Day weekend everyone I know is traveling. So I ended up seeing the "Halloween" remake...alone. Ah, well, I guess there are worse things...at least it wasn't a Carrot Top movie...
