Okay girls, I am back. And whew - I just went on a marathon to catch up here. Glad to hear that most had fun while I was gone. Disney charges like $10 per day for internet access and I wanted to spend time with DS so I left the laptop at home....
Anyway, I had a spectacular race. It is a PR for me - and a time improvement on the same course last year by almost 30 minutes - which is huge.
I race for 5 hours and 49 minutes - stayed strong the whole way and came in 13th out of 66 for my age group - thanks to the new coach's plan that I have stuck to. Burned almost 3,000 calories! Which was not at all a goal - but an interesting techno tidbit from my heart rate monitor. Geez - the things it can tell you.
Got to stay with good friends - a married couple with an almost 2 year old boy. He is sure a ball of walking, talking, non-stop energy machine that is so huggable. I loved spending quality time with him - and DS loved having a temporary brother - but then we got to hand him back to his mom for all of the work!! LOL!! She doesnt race but watched the kids - and my DS helped her with the baby so it was like a great deal for all.
Fireman called while I was there and again tonight.
Well, my wave started at 6:27 am. Set the alarm for 4:00 AM and woke up at 3:43 without the alarm. Ate a banana, bagel and powerbar. Drank water.
Got to the race site after 5AM - it is dark and 2,000 very buff people who are all worried about their own race are stirring and scurrying about a small pen where we have all of our bikes.
Can you imagine a gun going off and then swimming 1.2 miles in a lake with about 200 other people as fast as you can? Then hopping on a bike wet and going 56 miles as hard as you can? And then hopping off the bike, sitting on the ground and peeing while putting on your running shoes? And then taking off and running 13 miles in the heat?
Whoa, congrats on the personal best. That is an impressive improvement. My boys are swimmers, just fractions of a second are to be celebrated. I totally admire that you can stay so disciplined with the training. You go girl!
Whew!!!! I am totally impressed - way to go with your personal best btw! I am with Shrimpy in that I have no problem eating 3000 calories but I can't imagine burning that many in one week let alone 6hrs!
What are you going to do for your well deserved rest?
Well, for our Disney enjoyment, we visited Blizzard Beach. My son adores that water park and I like the water parks, too. They are cheaper than the regular parks, generally much less crowded, and allow me to relax while he can play/ride on anything he likes. We love to ride the lazy river and more mellow tube type rides together. And he loves the snow cones.
I asked him if he wanted to go to any other parks and he said no. He is tired of all of them - doesn't like the hassle of the lines anymore. I guess that is what happens when you live here and go too much. I have been dragging him through the parks since he was 18 months old. And his dad does the same every year with his family.
The other thing DS absolutely loves is the Disney Fort Wilderness Cabins which is where we stayed - shared with friends. Loves to ride around in the golf cart and pool hop. So, the last day we had the whole place to ourselves and rode all around in the golf cart. We took a tour of the camp ground so he can see what I am getting him into in 2 weeks - we are going to rough it in a tent in Jackson Hole. We also took a nature walk and saw 2 snakes. That was an adventure!!
We did visit Downtown Disney - walked around a bit - that is a fun place but DS is not much of a shopper so we didn't stay too long. I think the next time we go back we are going to fit in a Cirque du Soleil show - we had seen that one other time and liked it so much we are ready to see it again. They have good prices on the matinee shows.
My coach gave me yesterday off and the instructions to work out every day - but easy - no structured stuff. So, today I will probably swim or run easy with the puppies.
There is no way you can eat the 3000 calories during the race. I think I took in like 1200. The rest is body fat (yeah!) and glycogen.
The funny thing is that I was NOT hungry at all after the race. I ate a salad and ice cream for dinner!!
