OK, things are going good with myspace guy. I took him with me on Easter to a friend's big celebration at their lake house. This is the first time I have introduced him to friends and it went well!

We get along so good and have so much in common! The only concern I have is that I eat pretty healthy and stay active. He loves my cooking and wants to get a bike so we can go riding. But, I noticed when we eat out he ALWAYS gets really unhealthy stuff. (bacon cheeseburgers, french fries, chicken fried steak, fried catfish) When he suggests stopping by Whataburger, I just nicely tell him there isn't anything there I can eat and I am really trying to eat healthy. No problem, we go somewhere that we can both get something we like.

OK, I am concerned about the fact he is 46 and is living on such a heart clogging diet. I am not about to say anything and just make sure I cook healthy when I cook. I also want him to be able to bike and hike with me since the weather is warming up. He is quite a bit heavier than his myspace pics and I think the weight gain is in the last 6 months.

I really like him and just wondered how anybody else would feel in my shoes. I know you can't nag someone to lose weight, but I do worry he is on the way to some real health problems in the future. Do I just keep eating and cooking healthy and hope it rubs off?

"Do I just keep eating and cooking healthy and hope it rubs off? "

I think that is all you can do. Time will tell you. I think you can cook a lot of healthy food and that will get him to eat better most of the time. But only he can make a decision to be more active.

His history should tell you- was he once athletic but has been bogged down by work? Or has he always been more inactive?

Well, I'm glad things are going well!

As for the food- I would just keep eating/ cooking healthy and being active.

He used to play football, so I know he was athletic. His pics on myspace are HOT! He works 50 - 60 hours a week and eats out alot. He also had some problems with a broken ankle and gout last year.

I didn't want to sound shallow, but my ex-FIL had a heart attack in his 40's from terrible eating habits and smoking. (no, he doesn't smoke or we would not be dating) My close friend also lost her husband at 51 from a heart attack and he WAS eating healthy and not overweight. (not uncommon once they hit 50)

I also don't want to try and change someone. I wouldn't want someone trying to change me! I like being in my 40's and set in my ways! ;-)

Maybe since it is warming up and we can do more outdoor activities it will help.

Well, we are going to Florida next month and I plan on packing a cooler with healthy stuff! I am NOT gonna spend a bunch of money on chips and candy at the convenience stores along the way! I am not fanatical about eating healthy, but you DO feel better!!

Yes- I love packing apples and carrot sticks for snacks, since they stay crunchy (for the most part) and give great energy!

I say keep doing what you are doing and he will want to join in as long as you make it delicious and fun. With you to do the cooking, he will want to eat more of what you make than to eat out I bet. Sounds like he got into a bit of a rut with the ankle. I do know that gout is affected by diet - so maybe you want to do a search on webmd.com to find out more.
