My DD and I are having our black-eyed peas today. I always make Hoppin John on New Years Day. I think the rice is suppose to mean something also but not sure what it is. In addition, I boil some quarters (for sterilization purposes of course) and add them after it is cooked and anyone that has a quarter in their serving is suppose to be extra lucky.

Don't know how assertive I will be with my social life. I'll probably trudge along like usual. I do want to take care of myself better this year. I would like to quit smoking but am not making a resolution to do so even though I know I should. I'm lucky to have beautiful fingernails but I don't polish them and take care of them like I used to. I also used to dress better so I need to do something with that also. Course, that's going to require clothes shopping and I would rather have a nail stuck in my eye that clothes shopping. I have faced the fact that the last couple of years, I have really become lazy with my appearance. I've been doing just enough to get by. Can't attract anyone lookin half-a$$$d!

OOOH - I want to hear the Sadie Hawkins story!!

Well, for me, I don't know if I will have black-eyed peas - will have to see how the day goes - it looks like it will just be me and the pups working around the house today.

As for me for the coming year - I am working harder on my networking and social life. I feel really lucky to have all of these new found HS single girl friends who want to get together and do stuff. I am working on getting out of the house.

Hoppin John is blackeyed peas, rice and ham. I didn't have ham this year so I flavored it up with some smoked sausage. I fix the dried peas not canned. You just throw it all together but I tend to cook my peas a little too long which can make it a little mushy. It's good though. My DD found a total of $1.25 in her helpings and I found $.75 in mine.

It must be because I am a Northerner but I didn't even know it was good luck to eat Black-eyed peas on New Years!
