make over

Ya know I was thinking -- why dont they have people in the REAL WORLD who do make overs-- or do they?
I seriously need help with my hair and wardrobe- and wish I had a hair stylist, fashion coordinator, make up - the works...
Does something like that even exsist outside the talk shows? Because I know many women would pay for that.

Most major department stores will have make up consultants who will do free makeup makeovers and they can teach you what colors and products work best for your skin color and complexion.
As for hair, you can do your own makeover right here on iVillage if you have a scanned picture of yourself. I did it and it was fun to see how I would look with blonde hair and blue eyes. :)

As for having a coach that can do it all for you and take you through the steps...I don't personally know anyone who's in the business of doing that, but I know there's a program called UDefineU that deals with that. I think you can find it at udefineu.com.
~ edited to say that I have not personally used this program, so I can't say if it works or not.

I agree. Sounds like a fun idea. Tomorrow I am doing some clothes shopping and buying at LEAST one really cute/fun outfit that is out of my usual scope. (then some jeans and shirts because I am desperate for them!)
Sure would be nice to have a professional.
I am with you on the hair style thing but not willing to pay for the ivillage makeover thing just yet. (G, that thing USED TO be free, but I think you have to pay to subscribe now. dumb dumb dumb. I guess nothing is really free)
And I have been DYING to go to a makeup counter and have my makeup done and buy a couple of nice things. Why haven't I yet? I don't KNOW. I just keep forgetting it.
I've love to be swept away for a makeover weekend. Ahhhh.....
I think it helps to stick to a few basic colors (black and brown) for shoes/belts/bags. I have had a lot of luck with finding REALLY cute belts in Walmart. And the price is right!
As for hair, I have found a lady that works out of her house and she does a great job with my hair. (I found her by asking someone with a cute style who did her hair.) For makeup you can always to go a department store or Sephora but I have found that less is more and I wear very little. I actually prefer the Body Shop for make up. It is cheaper than the stuff in the dept. stores and it looks more natural.
Fashion is a fleeting target. I am always in a constant process of buying clothes and cleaning out my closet!!
Not that I want Stacy and Clinton from "What Not To Wear" coming in and invading my wardrobe and embarassing me on tv, but to have someone tell me what looks good on my body would be a real treat.
I guess only in larger towns, they do that, but it's gotta be hard to find them. The ones that would really cater to you.

A couple of examples, I went into Gap and was flustered by the choices. I found the most sympathetic looking sales clerk, explained the cut I was looking for. My size wasn't on the floor, she went to the back room and they had the cut and color I wanted. I tried them on and they are the best jeans ever.
I recently went into Banana Republic. I wanted to put together some kind of a look. I found a top, but needed a camisole because the top was low cut. I let the sales girl pick out the camisole (i never would have chosen that one) and it looked great together.
I also watch "What Not To Wear".
Hey I agree...
I am so stuck in the 80s it seems and I remember a long long time ago I used to get compliments on what I wore- how I had my hair--and I havent wore heals in probably 10 years...
Ummm all of that was prior to children-- and 2 back surgeries--divorce
I need to find out where my "cute" self went geesh...
Ive gotten so used to just being comfortable...
