Find a Conversation
| Fri, 03-14-2008 - 5:09pm |
I thought I'd do a count so far on my 3 month Match.com subscription. From my many years of online dating, I have had about a 10% response rate and from those responses I probably get 10% of those who I actually have a conversation with and meet.
I sent my first Match message on March 9 and about ten days later I have sent messages to 60 women. I have gotten 11 refusals. I got 3 unsolicited inquiries/messages from women that I have no interest in. Debbie is the only one I had a conversation with and met.
So I have had 20% response (refusal) rate and 1.7% communication/meet rate (Debbie) in ten days. Plus viewed 95 times.
As I mentioned here before, I feel that this is a good time for me to be "out there" since I am not really looking so I am not so attached to the outcome of any of my inquiries. I won't be set up for disappointment.
I have readjusted in not having someone in my life and still emotionally resting or healing from CNDG.
Debbie is someone I can be interested in but I'm cautious because I don't want to mislead her in my emotional availability or willingness to create a long term relationship. Right now it's all good. Only been on 2 dates and the first one was for coffee.

Wow - this is so interesting to hear the "other side" so to speak. I never send out messages because the guys never respond - I feel the outcome is always better when they find and contact me.
So you do have a lot of work - to write 60 messages - that is a lot - although spread over 3 months is only 20 per month or about 5 per week.
Let me ask you - how do you find the ones to write to?
- do they wink
- are they ones who viewed your profile
- do you click on mutual searches
- or do you just search?
Well 60 messages over the first 10 days.
Thanks - that is interesting.
Do you ever contact someone who has viewed you who might have somehow slipped through the cracks in the initial search?
It is interesting to hear how the other side operates!! LOL!! And I must say I agree with the incompatibilities. I don't want to be gone a lot - and I don't want someone who is an atheist. I also don't like smoking or motorcycles. I guess you don't have to worry so much about the motorcycles - LOL!!
Mark,
Just passing through this board because I am
I keep looking every day to see who has "slipped through the cracks" for I have messaged everyone that looks good to me and if they have not responded by now then they won't later.
Yes no smokers either! I avoid women who like motorcycles as well.

Thanks Memphis! That's sweet of you *smile* Neil Diamond huh? LOL. I would love to have silly dance partners!
I told CNDG that my role with my kids is to play the "straight man" to boost their self esteem LOL. When I am the silly guy they cringe and tell me to quit it. Most parents say that their role in life is to embarrass their kids especially when they are teenagers. I am not that way but I do join in when they get silly.
I am the type of guy who does not need alcohol to do karaoke though. And I love to dance wildly with abandon at our great summer outdoor festivals with R&B bands or World Beat bands or Zydeco.
Take care,
Mark

I have one friend that married someone perfect for them off of E-Harmony, and he is now looking at year 3 of the relationship. They are married and expecting a child.
One friend who had a horrible experience, and one friend who met her husband on the internet, although not through a dating site.
That's just a 2 cents on people I know who ventured out on the online meeting market ;) It's certainly possible :)
