I may not live in the US, but the impact of what happened today all those years ago was still felt here.... let's take a moment to remember all those who lost their lives in the tragedies that unfolded on this date.
Does anyone want to share what they were doing when they heard and how they felt?
Did you lose someone in this tragedy?
Have you talked about it with your children?

We're in upstate NY- actually closer to the site in PA than to NYC.
I was on my way to work when I heard about it on the radio. I still remember the feeling of helplessness as I thought about it.
I never visited NYC before the attacks, but having seen groud zero since, it's a strange and almost eerie feeling.
Because of our location, I suppose, my kids have heard a lot about it. They discuss it in school, hear things on the news, and generally know some bad people did something horrible. I'm sure they don't grasp the full reality- I'm not even sure I grasp the full reality of it.
The only "real" consequence they've seen is increased fire and emergency drills, increased security on their school's campuses and much more alertness when it comes to visitors at school and on the buses.
Since they were so young, my kids don't really know why things suddenly got a little tighter- they've never been on a plane when they didn't have to take off their shoes, for instance.
Moody, who sees the new reality for us will be our children's only reality

I was also driving to work and heard over the radio that a plane had flown into the WTC... from the parking lot to the front door ... the second plane hit.... and a coworker said, we're under attack...
I work in television news and it was crazy and unreal... i worked while i watched it unfold on tv... and i wondered how many other targets would get hit... it was like something out of a movie.. like Independence Day... I was in shock for the first couple days... then it just hit me all of a sudden and I cried and cried.... unbelievable...
As for the children... i asked them if they heard about it at school, but they hadn't.. we had just visited NY the year before and took picture with WTC in the background... so i said, remember those big twin towers... they are gone... i said, as i fought back tears.. My son, who was 7 at the time said, we will rebuild them... My dd14 (who was 8) has seen all the documentaries and movies about it since then... We rented "World Trade Center" over the weekend and she told me about some stories she heard on The Discovery Channel... compelling stuff.... I cry when i watch those movies...
My ds8 (who was only 2) watched the movie with us and said, did this really happen? Yes, i said.. this is a true story.
I got a double whammy that day.
