Mommy's day and vent...

So, for mother's day, the boys took me for a picnic by the ocean and a nice walk through the park. It was lovely- except for the STUPID dogs!!!
The park we were in allows dogs off leashes, BUT they are supposed to be trained to return to the owner at the first command- something that I don't believe a lot of the owner's read on the signs!!!
So, we're sitting there enjoying our picnic and there were 3 dogs during the course of lunch that came up sniffing and trying to get into the food. We're swatting at them and saying "get", but the owner's are going, "mimsy, c'mon girl..." in a sweet tone. Not really coming to the first command as they're supposed to!
Then one of the dogs actually BARKED at Nicolas when the owner tried to drag it away!
If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's untrained dogs! Nothing worse than having some dog come up and jump all over you, smell your crotch, get into your food, lick you all over and they're not a puppy!
ok, done ranting, lol!

I can relate - we have 2 puppies and I am mortified when they do that - we are working with them to teach them manners. I guess dogs will be dogs and should stay on their leashes!!
DS and I had a great time. When I woke up he had gotten up early and decorated the house with a huge banner of taped together paper that said, "Happy Mother's Day!" and it was from him and the puppies. He had slept in the crate with the smaller puppy so it wouldn't get cold - he is too sweet!!
He also had a hat for me and a present he made in school. He rode his bike with me and let me go shopping for an hour. Then we had a lovely dinner on our patio (made by me of course!).
My own mom was busy with my sisters kids who are sick - so I guess we will celebrate with her on another day.
Hope everyone had a good day and managed to get a little time to do something they liked.
Ugh, Alison, I completely feel your pain! I'm a dog lover, and I hate untrained dogs!
My brother and sister-in-law came over for dinner yesterday, with their 3 dogs. They have no children, so they bring their dogs with them whenever they come, like it's the same thing.
They have two yellow labs and a beagle. The labs are way too big for our house, and make our dog (who's a little old mutt, but it's his house) very nervous. They are in the way, sniff everyone's crotch, chew anything, eat the cat food, and litter, get into the garbage.... it's very annoying. Then my brother has the nerve to complain about my kids whining that the dogs are scary. The dogs weigh more than the kids do, and have knocked them down in the past in their excitement... I'd be scared, too!
I can't even imagine if I went to a dog park, since I'd definitely not be able to bite my tongue... I'm just not one of those people.

That's too bad about the dogs. I like dogs, but don't trust other people's dogs at all. They can nip at you faster than the owner can react.
I see people in my neighborhood walking dogs off of their leashes. They aren't supposed to do that. Sadly, one of the dogs got hit by a car last week. I felt more sorry for the lady who hit the dog, than the lady who chose to walk her dog off of its leash.
