Well, the labowner called and he is nice - but he is HEAVY into the Harley/motorcycle thing. He and his friends take all kinds of trips every week.
I just can't stand motorcycles - way too dangerous for my taste, especially with all of the old and crazy drivers here.
And I think he was put off by my cycling because he was sort of asking funny questions if I wear "those uniforms" and ride in "those big groups" and stuff like that - the reason it came up is because I was returning his call this morning as I was coming out of his city - and I had left a message about that - so he was asking my why I was down there. I don't know - just a bad vibe.

I admit I have a prejudice of anyone whose life revolves around a culture based on a machine. My good friend found the love of her life on Yahoo and definitely did not like motorcycles but guess what? he rides and she has learned to love it. His life is not centered on it for he does things like running, skiing, and other activities.
Here in Portland there is a bicycling culture which I am not comfortable with, e.g. everyone has to wear the correct lycra bicycling outfits with the tour-de-logos on them, bike shoes, expensive bicycles, googles, not just a "cyclocomputer" but a heart rate montior and a GPS, etc. Anytime I have gone on group rides I have been the only one without "the look," showing up in my khaki cotton shorts and sneakers.
I think regardless of the activity there is a certain sub-culture around it if that's all you do. Those who train/ride/run/whatever weekly together then they bond and all they talk about is the gear or the ride. Heck I find that at dog parks, all they talk about are their dogs.
Trust the vibe Judy, i.e. trust your gut/trust yourself.
Mark who does a little bit of everything and does not fit into any sub-culture in a city filled with sub-cultures
May your soul be at rest.
May your heart remain open.
May you realize your own true nature.
May you be healed.
May you be a source of healing for the world. - a zen prayer
I am an OR nurse and we call them "donor-cycles".
I am laughing at your spelling of googles - very cute!!
I don't ride with any of the big groups - it is something I do around here to be fit - mostly by myself - so am not one of the culturists - just like to get up early and be fit. I am hoping to find someone who likes to ride. But if they like running, swimming, golfing or tennis that is great too because then they have the same mentality of get up early and make the most of the day.
I think the big flag here is that he was derisive of something you're very active in.
oooooooooooooooch! I don't like motorcyclists either. Scares the heck out of me and I know it is awful and prejudiced to say, but every guy that I met that was really into them (met only, not that every guy into motorcycles is this way), were all a little similiar to one another. Just a certain something that I wasn't into. Usually no wine drinker, a little rough around the edges, didn't like to
In the ER, we called them Donor-cycles too!
I used to ride with my ex on his motorcycle. Always wore a helmet, and only on short rides. It was fun and a thrill... but once I had my first DS, I just couldn't get back on that thing anymore!!! I just had thoughts of us crashing and DS would lose both parents in one fell swoop... and I just couldn't ride anymore. The ex didn't like it, but I just refused. And then he started riding without a helmet (as the TX laws changed) and I couldn't convince him to wear one just to help a LITTLE, should he crash- to save his own life. To save the life of our DS's dad... but he didn't care. He'd rather feel the freedom of the wind rather than try to protect himself.
Ugh on motorcycles!!!!! Thankfully, Hiker isn't into cycles. He had one when he was in his early 20's and crashed bad with a pickup truck... and so he won't ride a cycle again because of that.
