My weekend
12
Sun, 07-20-2008 - 7:06pm

Friday night was with my kiddos. They did not want to do much because they were tired so OK by me. I bought salmon from Costco and told my DS19 to cook it, my DD15 cooked the broccoli and I cooked the rice. It all turned out great and Saturday we went to an outdoor jazz festival by the river. We have done this for years and it's a nice low key thing we do. Picnic blanket and dog.

Saturday night Cute Widow and I hooked up with my 42 yr old friend and her friends for an outdoor interpretive performance piece with blanket picnic noshes. It was all very abstract but I was glad we got to get out to enjoy the weather and the company.

Sunday morning CW and I went with her friend to do a bike ride. She and her friend(s) are training for this weekend group ride first weekend of August. They do about 30 miles every Sunday morning. It was just the three of us this time because two of her friends are out on vacation. It turned into a 5 hour 43 mile bike ride. I"m WIPED out! I was glad I did it though.

Tonight my friend and his wife invited us (CW and her DD12) to dinner. This guy has been married to his childhood sweetheart for about 2 yrs now. He has always thought of her since he was 12. They never dated and after high school she went off to Alaska to marry. When they reconnected at their high school reunion (I think they are 50 now) 3 years ago, she was still married and he was divorced from his 5 yr marriage for about 3 yrs. She was there with her husband and he chatted with both of them. He was still sweet on her but was respectful.

Two weeks later she called telling him how she is separating and from there started this courtship. A year later they married. He proposed to her when she was still married. They lived 5 hours away from each other and physically saw each other for about 4-6 weeks before they got married. I felt this was incredibly stupid or incredibly romantic or both. He inherited an instant 9 yr old son (he has no children from his first marriage) and fully supporting his wife who went back to school full time.

They seem to be happy. I am totally amazed and happy for them.

Mark who is having some beers to deal with the longest bike ride he ever ridden in his life

Your weekend sounded so nice. well except for the bike ride...I can actually ride a bike but because of an injury I really can't. I love the outdoor events.

I have to agree with you on the totally romantic and/or totally idiotic with your friends. To me it just seems like one would be living in the past, maybe a fantasy that you have in your head about this other person.

Have a great dinner...

That WAS quite a bike ride!!! My butt would've given out after 30 minutes, even though my legs might've been able to go longer! LOL That's super to ride for 5 hrs and 30 miles. Yay for you, Mark!!!!!!

The rest of the weekend sounds relaxing, too. A jazz festival in the park... how wonderful!!!

I'm glad you are having fun with CW, too!

That sounds like a great weekend! I love how you are cooking with the kids - most impressive that they can cook and that you all prepared the meal together. Sounds like you and CW are experiencing a good variety of things and moving along well. I am totally laughing at your bike riding experience. I won't tell you how many miles I covered in 3 hours yesterday ;-) BUT I am so glad CW is getting you out on the bike!! She sounds like such a fun lady!! :-)

That bike ride was the most I have ever done and if I had known we were going out that long then I would have begged off. I was glad I went with CW and her friend for it made the ride "no pressure" and I actually led a lot.

Around here in Portland, there are lot of hard core cyclists and the rides I've been on have been ones that I was trailing the group, struggling to keep up. These are the cyclists who wear spandex/lycra, have clipless pedals, have their bike GPS's and think 40 miles is a short ride.

My son and I will be doing the "hottest day of the year" ride in August. He was inspired by the costume bike ride last weekend. This ride will be 15 miles and they are aiming for the largest waterfight record (last year was 950) where they will be handing out water guns to everyone on the ride. Plus free ice cream sundaes at the end.

Mark whose butt is ok but his entire body is still tired the day after
