Friday night was with my kiddos. They did not want to do much because they were tired so OK by me. I bought salmon from Costco and told my DS19 to cook it, my DD15 cooked the broccoli and I cooked the rice. It all turned out great and Saturday we went to an outdoor jazz festival by the river. We have done this for years and it's a nice low key thing we do. Picnic blanket and dog.
Saturday night Cute Widow and I hooked up with my 42 yr old friend and her friends for an outdoor interpretive performance piece with blanket picnic noshes. It was all very abstract but I was glad we got to get out to enjoy the weather and the company.
Sunday morning CW and I went with her friend to do a bike ride. She and her friend(s) are training for this weekend group ride first weekend of August. They do about 30 miles every Sunday morning. It was just the three of us this time because two of her friends are out on vacation. It turned into a 5 hour 43 mile bike ride. I"m WIPED out! I was glad I did it though.
Tonight my friend and his wife invited us (CW and her DD12) to dinner. This guy has been married to his childhood sweetheart for about 2 yrs now. He has always thought of her since he was 12. They never dated and after high school she went off to Alaska to marry. When they reconnected at their high school reunion (I think they are 50 now) 3 years ago, she was still married and he was divorced from his 5 yr marriage for about 3 yrs. She was there with her husband and he chatted with both of them. He was still sweet on her but was respectful.
Two weeks later she called telling him how she is separating and from there started this courtship. A year later they married. He proposed to her when she was still married. They lived 5 hours away from each other and physically saw each other for about 4-6 weeks before they got married. I felt this was incredibly stupid or incredibly romantic or both. He inherited an instant 9 yr old son (he has no children from his first marriage) and fully supporting his wife who went back to school full time.
They seem to be happy. I am totally amazed and happy for them.
Mark who is having some beers to deal with the longest bike ride he ever ridden in his life

Yeah I'm pretty lucky for them wanting to be with me. Friday night is my night with them and there have been times they have went off to be with their friends instead (they always ask if it is OK). DD15 and DS19 are great friends so they want to be with each other so that helps a lot. They riff and play off each other a lot. I feel that their closeness is my best legacy.
I've been told my arse is one of my better body parts ;-).
