A friend of mine, before she had kids, was always going on and on about her "spoiled neice" because this little girl of 2 yrs old didn't want to give hugs to grandma and auntie and uncle and... Every sunday at church, this poor kid would throw a fit because everyone would be trying to touch her- I can imagine her not wanting to go at all!
And then she was going on about the mother not MAKING the girl give hugs- what the heck!?!
Kid doesn't want to do it, you don't force them- it wrecks their self esteem!
Just like ds and speaking in class, he has a hard time with it- and gets poor marks on that part of his report card because of it... but I completely understand, because I was the same way, so I don't push him about it at all... we have talked about it, and he's doing better, but he's just shy/ nervous about it. But forcing him to do it will just make him feel upset, and he once lashed out at a daycare teacher for physically forcing him to be in a play rehearsal- WELL! you can imagine MY reaction to that one when they wanted to talk to me about ds lashing out--- what did YOU do to him to MAKE him lash out, was my first question... I know my kid! And sure enough...
