I have some ideas but I'm just trying to figure out what's best.
Everyone knows Shane is a golf fanatic and I originally was going to get him the Ben Hogan golf bag he wanted for his birthday. I planned to do that for months and found out later he really did want one so I knew I made a great choice. But money got tight after having to shell out money for the house, so he got something else he liked equally as well.
I still want to get him the bag, but lately he's been talking about cookware. Sauciers, new skillets, pans, etc. Our new kitchen is huge and has tons of space and Shane is an excellent cook. I know he'd enjoy the new stuff and it would be used a lot. And I'd get him the good stuff. I know what he wants.
I am just trying to figure out which to get. I'm putting a $150.00 limit on gifts because that's the price of the bag and I figure I can get him a few good pieces of cookware for that too if I look for bargains.
He'd love either one, so I don't think I'd be cheating him either way. But which do I get???

Dear heavens, girlfriend, PICK THE PANS!!!!!!!!!
Cooking is something he can do for you (unlike golf that takes him AWAY) and will make staying home fun when baba arrives.
I would look in the mall - some of the department stores have outrageous deals on pans. Get him an apron, too!! Tell him Santa heard he was the best chef and wanted him to be outfitted right for the new home!!
Walmart and Costco have pretty good deals right now, too. Maybe you want some good knives, too?
OOH, OOH, OOH! Yes! Knives. He's been craving decent knives. Although I'm not too savvy on cutlery. I know the cookware. He just bought me a couple of skillets so I know what's good, but the knives are foreign to me.
Can you or anyone else give me examples of good cutlery that will last?
He's super picky!
Thanks in advance!

For good cutlery that lasts see the department stores. Henckel and Trident make lower-priced sets that have serrated knives and they come in a wood block and last a long time - those are about $50 - of course you may also find a good deal on ebay.
I finally splurged on the super expensive set of Trident knives - I have wanted them all my life. I was trained as a chef and pastry chef so I really do know good knives and appreciate them.
Good luck with the kitchen stuff!! Keep us posted. I am enjoying reading all of your posts so much - you are doing so well and are an inspiration to us!!
Trident knives, huh? Alrighty. I have to listen to you because you are trained as a chef, so you have to know what's good. I'll look into those on eBay and in stores to see the best deal.

Dear heavens, girlfriend, PICK THE PANS!!!!!!!!!
LOL!!!! This was my first thought too!
Mel, if he'll LIKE the pans, I'd go with those too. Forget the expensive "get him out of the house even more" bag!
Speaking of aprons, look into the "Danger: Men Cooking" line. :) You can get aprons, oven mitts, a gun holster belt that holds "Tough guy" cooking sauce, even yellow crime scene tape that says "Danger: men cooking" LOL It is pretty cute stuff.

That's the cutest stuff! I never saw that before. I might have to decorate my kitchen with that eventually. How adorable! Thanks! It's saved in my favorites!
