Night Ride

Friday night CW came over to make me a nice pasta dinner. We talked about the pregnancy possibility. She's not too worried and will do the test mid-next week if she does not get her period. I love how we can just talk about such tough topics in a calm, rational manner.
She shared more about her deceased husband and how he was co-dependent in wanting to be liked and despite that he was a lawyer, he did not make any money because he never collected fees because he wanted to be liked. She was the financial supporter of the family first as a legal assistant then going back to school to get her Bachelor's in Biology to work as a lab technician.
I liked how she did not want to complain about her husband for she said there were a lot of good qualities and overall had a happy marriage. I told her what she felt and her experience of him was not being disrespectful or unappreciative but honest and she owned what she felt rather than blaming him. Much like how I struggled with how I feel with my former spouse.
Saturday night the kids and I got our bikes and went downtown to meet up with CW and her DD12 (soon-to-be 13 next month). I love this town for one of the bylines that describe it is "Keep Portland Weird." It was a ride that went 15 miles around the city. It encouraged costumes or wearing your PJs/nightwear.
There was a totally naked guy, a fat almost naked woman, a guy in his red jockey tighties, superman, a pair that was dressed as fruits, people with contraptions that lit up themselves and/or their bicycles, a witch with a broom attached to her bike, a pirate, and on and on. I was going to come with my red flannels but it was one of the hottest day of the year so I punted and went in my shorts and bike shirt.
I was happy that my kids and I did this together. They got exercise and we shared another experience together. CW and I did not get to spend too much time together because of the hundreds if not thousand or so bicyclists out doing this event.
Today is going to be my birthday brunch, my favorite meal but considering our late night exercise I really doubt the kids will be up before 1 PM. So it may be just an early dinner. We are going to go shopping for my birthday picnic tomorrow. The menu will be soba (Japanese buckwheat noodles) and Inari sushi (non raw fish) with manju (Japanese sweetcake - a nickname I gave my DD!5) as my birthday "cake." I got saki and champagne. We got party hats and some bubble blowing kits.
See the attached pics from last night.

Good pix!! Thanks for sharing - your kids are very nice looking!! How fun that they would ride - and I love the pic of CW with her pigtails - she looks nice.
Sounds like you all had a great day - things are coming along well - glad to hear it - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
And - that sounds like such a fun bike ride - I would love to do that one - what a great way to get everyone out and about and MOVING!! The costumes sound crazy!!
All bets here are that she is going through menopause and that she is not pregnant - with her age and your vasectomy - I just don't think that to be possible. But it is good that you can talk about it in a calm manner - LOL!!
Lol- your kids are a riot! Love the pics!
I'm soooo glad that you and CW are working out so well! The bike ride sounds like fun, although not for me LOL!
Also, I agree with Judy- given her age and your vasectomy, it's more likely that she's entering the stages of menopause than pregnancy. Although, stranger things have happened!
Hey, Mark.
Taking after their mother?! Not in terms of personality (except for their sharp sarcasm, wit, and intelligence-which they get from both sides).... well I am glad they are attractive inside as well as outside. I do tell people that my dog and my children are my best selling points for they are immediately lovable. (Me, it takes a bit longer *grin*).
For my birthday, I decided to write an appreciation for every person who has made a positive impact on my life that I'll be seeing this month. This is what I wrote to my children:
"Ah how can I speak of my greatest loves without speaking in two? You, my children, are one. Separate and distinct, yet together. You are joy incarnate, spontaneity epitomized, fun energized, and affection without end. M, you are my first born, my favorite son and the foundation of mirth for the two of you. R, my manju, you are my favorite daugther, the foil of fun. I treasure your deep caring and outspoken fiestiness. You are proof that there is a God. I am blessed. Love, Dad"
