I'm totally freaking out right now. I got my haircut and figured she could get hers too and they found it.

A child in Cate's class had lice several times this year. Luckily, she never got it, but just being aware was something of a nightmare for me. I know your pain, but fear not!

Since you've done the treatment, I wouldn't worry about taking her to church or out anywhere. I also wouldn't worry too much about you getting it- I had lice in kindergarten several times and my mother did untold numbers of treatments and even cut my hair without getting lice.

This is a huge pain, but not the end of the world.

I would recommend washing EVERYTHING- blankets, stuffed animals, pillows, all linens, furniture covers if you have them- in hot water and dry them in the dryer. The heat apparently kills anything that might be living there. Also, anything that simply can't be washed can be bagged tighly in plastic for a couple of weeks. I'm told any bugs that are alive can't live without a host for very long, and nits won't hatch.

Hugs to you,this stinks!

Moody, thinking children only share what we wish they wouldn't

Oh you poor thing! I think lice are every mom's worst nightmare. They are always doing lice checks at our school and there is no rhyme or reason as to who gets them. I think it is just a school kid thing.

It sounds like you are being a very concerned mom and doing all that you can. Do keep us posted!!!!

The funny thing is that the school nurse told us that the lice actually prefer the cleanest hair! Go figure!! But I do know they are very contagious. I guess you have to be careful not to get them - I am sure you can find info online and perhaps some moms here have had to deal with them and have good tips!!

Yes, actually they do prefer clean hair, which is why I've always taken to paranoia about it and only wash her hair twice a week.
