My 12 year old entered the following poem in a poetry contest and today her LA teacher received a letter saying her poem was selected for publication in a hardbound book and is a finalist in the competition. The final winners will be awarded $3000 in prizes, or so the letter says!
Angel Wings
If you were given angel wings,
Where would you fly?
Above the wicked seas so gray,
Or across the cloudy white sky?
Would you take the rocky path,
Or fly over the mountain?
Would you take a boat,
Or fly over the rapid?
For life is nothing without chance,
As the time goes by,
Learn to walk, then learn to dance,
And someday you will fly.
If you were given angel wings,
Where would you fly?
Above the wicked seas so gray,
Or across the cloudy white sky?
I'm a proud Mom today!

Her poem is very good - I can't believe a 12 year old wrote that!!
Good luck - I hope she wins!! Keep us posted!
Congratulations Jessie!
It's wonderful that your daughter is interested in higher level language and literacy activities- not to mention sharpening her ability to use language to express her feelings and ideas.
You should be proud of your smart girl.
