talkin' 'bout people....
Well, this post has nothing to do whatsoever with that song, but it's a fun song that's stuck in my head.
I'm just excited about a couple of new things going on, so here they are...
I bought a new car (finally) that I love! It's a Pontiac Aztec-I really needed the AWD during the winter, and I also really love the fact that it doesn't look like every other rolling box out there. It's actually used, which ended up working out perfectly since it has an aftermarket DVD player installed and remote start- perfect for those cold mornings soon to come!
I've only had it since Tuesday and I can't believe I ever lived without a DVD player in my car before! No more "he's looking at me" or "she's making that noise" anymore!! The wireless headsets are a godsend, and I do Netflix, so we can have a revolving door of videos in the car. I'm in love with technology!
Also, Shrimpy, I'm going to start geocaching! The local paper ran a story today about geocachers in the area, so I went to the website- it totally looks like fun! funnyguy and I signed up, and lo and behold, there are 20 caches within 5 miles of the house, and one right in my parents' backyard. It looks like a wonderful thing to do with the kids, gets us all outdoors and gives funnyguy something to be technical about. I'm super excited to start tomorrow.
I enroll the kids in their new school officially tomorrow morning, and then Droid and I are going to finish his shopping while the princess spends some time with my parents. Droid will spend the weekend with his father, and then I'm back to work on Tuesday.
Monday I go with my parents for my father's angioplasty, which I have decided to be optimistic and hopeful about. It isn't exciting, really, but if it works it will bring him the relief he needs.
I just finished (today) crocheting him an afghan for him to use while in his wheelchair- he gets easily chilled. I'm happy that it's done, and I know he's going to enjoy it. I'm not overly crafty, really, so this was a pretty big undertaking for me.
Also, funnyguy and I are planning a mystery dinner party at our new house. It's so exciting and wonderful to be with someone who likes those types of things as much as I do- in fact, it was his idea! We're trying to decide whether or not to use the party as a way to introduce our families, or just a fun reason to have our friends over. We have a while, so either way, it's fun just to be planning it right now.
We're planning to move officially next week- I called the cable, electric, and gas companies today, and funnyguy's off next week too, so hopefully we'll be all the way in by this time next week. I hate moving, but am excited about this move and all the new changes in my life.
It seems as if I find a way to fill free time as quickly as I find the time itself, but I'm just thrilled to be with someone who takes an interest in me, is on my level in so many ways, and truly enjoys the same things. Not having to miss out, attend alone, or drag someone unwillingly is just plain awesome.
Moody, for once enjoying all of the changes

That is SO COOL, Moody- that you have funnyguy who is not just someone to take up some of your spare time- but it seems like he is a good person to just SHARE your time with. Sounds like you're meshing pretty well. Yay for you!!!
Yay that you're trying geocaching, too! What kind of GPS are you planning to get? Or do you or funnyguy have one already? I'm addicted to it because I love the challenge of the hunt. And I love the challenge of making my own hides for others to find, too. If you're ever in the TX panhandle, let me know- and you can look up some of my crazy caches. :-)
Continued prayers for all that your Dad has to go through. ((((((((((hugs))))))))))) But what a neat gift to him- of that afghan! I'm JUST starting to teach myself to crochet so I totally understand what a project an afghan must be! I've been doing it for a week- and it was quite a confusing mess to start, but now I have some stitches down pretty good, and looking forward to learning more! I'm doing a Learn-to-crochet afghan, made of 20 blocks of patterns, with each pattern done with a different technique or stitch. I'm actually pretty excited about it, although I know it will be well into 2008 before I will finish it!
Good luck on the move! I hate moving!!! But I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible for all of you!
I love reading your updates... things are just wrapping up so tidy!

The crocheting will get easier! My grandmother taught me a long time ago, and I still have lots to learn, but once you master it, you'll be amazed at how quickly you go through yarn! I could live in any one of three local fabric/yarn stores... there's always so much to choose from. Typically I do easier, quicker projects- like scarves for the kids, and can do one in a night- but the kids' necks are still pretty small!
As for the GPS, funnyguy has a GPS for his laptop, which we'll use at first until we know we like doing this, and then I'm sure he'll research them a lot- but I'm thinking a new, handheld one would be a great holiday gift. I've heard good things about garmin, in general, so we'll see.
So far, I'm simply amazed at the amount of caches nearby- there are literally dozens practically in walking distance. I think tomorrow we'll try an "easy" find, to get the kids into it and show them what it's all about. I still have a few vacation days, and my new car will be fun to drive around in while searching.
Thanks so much for all the encouraging words- I can hardly get through a day without this board!

What an awesome post!! Congrats on the new car - it looks like a good one. What color did you get?
And how wonderful that you can knit an afghan for your dad - that is something so special for him and a very constructive way to feel like you are helping him.
Good luck with your move. Sounds like everything is going good for you!! Keep us posted!! And let us know how a mystery dinner goes - tell us more - I have not heard of that before.
See Shrimps - your geocaching is becoming more popular - sounds like a great family activity.
So you guys will have to walk around carrying his laptop as you cache?!? I suggest/recommend getting a hand-held GPS! But I do understand you not wanting to buy one if you're not sure if you'd like it or not. But trust me in saying that it would be ALOT easier with a hand-held.
If you're taking the kids, then I would recommend picking a cache that lists as "regular" or "small" in size- that way it has all the swag or loot inside. Usually just junky toys and things that you can trade out with your own junky toy (lol), but sometimes you find something kinda cool! Sometimes you find a geocoin or travel bug that is trackable online so you can see what other caches it's been in, and drop it off somewhere else to let it keep traveling! But if you find one marked "micro"- they're usually not as fun for kids, as well as being harder for a newbie to find- because they are so small. Usually they contain only the logbook (or logsheet) that you sign to prove you were there, and that's it. No loot to look through or trade.
I know- geocaching is a whole entire geeky world, but I've seen some very cool things that I would never have seen if it weren't for caching!
About the crocheting- my Mom always wanted to teach me, but I never had (made) the time. Now I'm learning on my own and thoughts of my Mom keep running through my head. I miss her, and wish she was here to teach me and cheer for me when I get something right. But at least I'm letting her passing and absence keep me from enjoying it... crocheting really is a fun and relaxing hobby, just like cross-stitch and all the other crafty hobbies I enjoy. Sometimes there's nothing as satisfying as creating something with your own hands, even if you're following someone else's pattern. :-) I'm glad you learned from your grandmother- it just has to be better learning from a loved one than from a book. Hold THOSE memories dear! I wish I had ones of Mom teaching me... :-(

Judy, I got a light blue Aztec. I still am in love with it- let's hope it lasts as long as the payment does!
As for mystery dinner, basically it's a kit you buy with a mystery all spelled out. It gives a cast list, and the host sends each invitee their role and script, if there is one. They're pretty cool, have all sorts of themes and different stories. Someone typically dies, and the rest of the party is left to figure out "whodunit". Seems like a lot of fun.

You are SO right about hauling th laptop around! We found three caches today, one micro and two regular, and it was a TON of fun. We planned to do more but thunderstorms rolled through, so we went GPS shopping instead. I nearly bought a handheld, and am sure I will in the very, very near future.
So far, everyon'es super excited about it- the kids had fun and neither of them picked a fight during the entire outing. That right there is probably worth the price of a GPS!
It is geeky, but it's also active, and I truly love how independent it is- we can do it when we feel like it, and after the cost of the GPS it's basically free- can't get any better than that!
Moody, who probably should have ponied up today

At least you have a good song stuck in your head and not some goobery commercial song! LOL
Sounds like you got it goin on! Getting a new car, even if it is used, is such a neat feeling for some reason. AND a new house to boot!! I don't envy the move. But actually when I moved I used that time to get rid of a bunch of stuff. You know how it is...when you have kids there's always things to get rid of. Where DO all the little junky toys come from anyway? They just seem to appear.
I've read an article on geocaching just because I ran across the word somewhere and thought to myself "What the heck is that?" Sounds interesting.
Congrats Moody....lots of positive changes coming your way.
"Not having to miss out, attend alone, or drag someone unwillingly is just plain awesome" - that says SO much.
I think there are so many marriages or relationships in the world, where this is, sadly, the case. Some people say it works for them - but i cant imagine being LONELY in your own relationship, TRULY works.
I am so happy for you! Everything sounds as if it is going along so well. How long have you guys been together now? Its hard to keep track of who & what with everyone here! But either way, I am glad things are great!!!
We've been official and exclusive for exactly 5 months. I know it's been very fast- and I would normally not ever recommend anyone do what I do!
Most of my entire life should have a disclaimer stating that I was a "trained professional on a closed course", or maybe for "mature audiences only", certainly "do not try this at home" applies.
However, it is so amazingly right, and we are both exactly where we want to be at this moment. I agree that this doing stuff together is completely good, and exactly what I was missing in any of my other relationships.
While it may seem to everyone that we spend a ton of time together- and we definitely do- we also both make sure to stay active in any activities and hobbies we enjoyed before meeting each other- and we do both still have our own space, our own time, and our own lives. That is what makes us work so well- neither of us has had to give up anything to be together.
Moody, glowing with happiness
