Poor Shane

He's so miserable right now. This weekend he began to feel his right front top tooth hurting and he knew it was infected. He went yesterday to the dentist to see what they could do. He knows he needs a root canal. He's scheduled for the 9th of Sept.

We both thought he didn't get dental coverage, so we were in a panic over the $525 it would cost to do the procedure, but I figured out that we'd be okay as long as we didn't go anywhere spending money and still have about $800 left at the end of the month as a nice cushion or emergency thing. Finally we're back on our feet. Hope it stays that way. Well, he called later to give me the news that we DO have the coverage and it pays for at least half. SO we'll just pay our $20 co-pay, wait for the insurance to pay what it will and then pay the rest later. Nice. WHEW!

Last night, he was in so much pain. He was actually tearing up. I felt so helpless. He has antibiotics that the dentist prescribed and he had some Vicodin too that helped him. He woke up early this morning with his whole upper lip swollen and he went to the ER. He thought he was having a reaction to the meds, which has happened before, just with different meds. Turns out, it is just a normal manifestation of the infection and he needs to continue the meds and he got a new script for Vicodin. He came home, ate some scrambled eggs I made for him, changed clothes and went to work. I'm furious that he has to go. But it's the car business and it's the last day of the month. Unless he's dying, he has to be there. Of course, his co-manager that's just below him is a 22 year old recent college grad that never worked in the business before. Being a manager in this business requires experience on the sales floor, not just a piece of paper from college. It's far more involved than that. But his daddy is the GM of the dealership and he wants his baby boy on the desk, not walking the sales floor with the common folk. This kid is no more able to run the desk than my left breast, so Shane has to go in feeling like crap. It's frustrating.

I hope he feels better and the sweeling goes down soon. He says his face feels like it's about to explode.

Just thought I'd vent. I'm worried about my poor baby.

Went through this with J a year or so ago. He was MISERABLE! Just horrible.

The Vicodin didn't do anything for him. We called the doc and got a script for Percocet which helped immensely. The antibiotics will help to, because they're killing the infection that is causing the pain, so that when the doc pulls the tooth or performs the root canal he won't spread the infection around. Poor J. When his hit, he wanted to go in and have them fix it then and there. ANd they wouldn't till he had done a round of antibiotics and was healed up a bit.

LOL!!!! Vicodin didn't do a THING for ME when I had my surgery and it didn't help J either. That seemed like some pretty wimpy stuff to us. Have you ever tried Percocet? Ahhhh...Percocet, take me away...

So far the Vicodin seems to be helping. I can't take it. It makes me loopy. HE seems to react fine to it and the pain, although intense, is a lot easier to manage with the Vic.

Of course, he might need to end up taking something else later if the pain persists. He has over a week to wait. The root canal is next Thursday. But like you said, he has to clear up some of the infection before they can drill it. No need in spreading it all over. Poor baby. I feel so bad for him. He is so miserable.
