Election day had me thinking this morning...

What are your experiences in dating someone who differs with you regarding politics? Have you dated or married someone

M is a republican, I'm a fairly liberal democrat. We agree to disagree. And the funny thing is, on most issues that we feel strongly about we're both on the same page. We're both pro choice, we both believe religion and politics don't mix, and believe that the current administration is a disaster.

For me, I've dated a mixed bag.

-Soulmate matched my views to a T. We were both pretty radical back then.. we would talk for hours into the night about political philosophies. We matched 100 percent.

-ExH was the same as far as political party affiliation, but he was pretty moderate and we differed on some issues. We would always vote for the same party but differed on some issues. It was a good balance I think. Room for discussion.

-BE and I were on opposite sides of the political fence when we began dating. But what is interesting is that over the past two years we have both moved toward the middle, both more moderate these days. I think it comes form many discussions and really "hearing" the other side. We still differ which makes things intersting but we seem to be the same on some basic core values.

M- that is the same with BE and I. He was a Republican and I've always been Democrat but those fundamental issues you just mentioned we agree on.

ExH and I agreed on our political philosphy, although he is always much more vocal.

For me, it depends on the issue. I could not relate to someone who leaned too far to either extreme. I am ok with disagreeing with someone based on some positions but the area where we must mesh is core values. I actually stopped seeing someone because he was way too liberal for me. My ex is an independent but he doesn't particularly care for Republicans or Democrats. I am a moderate Republican but have on occassion voted Democrat.

I am a conservative leaning non partisan however that said I voted for Obama.

Exh is a hard core republican.

DF has a degree in poly sci as well. I know he voted Obama and the views we have discussed are mostly the same (except he's pro choice and I am pro life.) Not sure if he belongs to a party.
