What is your ritual to getting ready for a date?

You must have written this question with me in mind?

Okay - if truth be told, I HATE first dates. I don't know why - they just flip me out. So I am always nervous.

I used to go in a tizzy trying to find stuff to wear. But now I have a lot of "proven" outfits - from casual shorts to pants to skirts - so whatever the occasion - I have an outfit.

The best thing for me is to decide the outfit long before the date - like the day before or that morning - so I am putting it together before I get nervous.

Otherwise: Nerves + Can't find an outfit = closet tizzy = 10 outfits on the floor!!! And I hate that. But it hasn't happened in a while.

But I don't really have music - just shower, makeup, hair, clothes, go.

One of the things that has helped me so so so much is that my babysitters, who are like 20 years younger, have helped me shop, dress and fix my hair and accessories. They are Latin and really have a flair for looking good. Their rule is to only show one sexy part - like legs or a little cleavage - but never both. And jewelry always matches the outfit as does the belt, the shoes and the bag. And the hair is always perfect. I have learned a LOT from them. IN fact it is my Latin friend who helped me with the pictures on match.

And the lifeguard still makes me nervous so I am still going through this every time I see him - LOL!!

I like to pick out something at least by the day before... like west, I don't want nerves to drive me even more crazy because I cant find something to wear... plus if I've picked it out beforehand than i know where everything is and that it's all clean and pressed (but not that I iron stuff... lol). Like I bought a whole outfit back in march... I thought it would be the perfect date outfit... new bag, shoes, and jewelry to match... but I just haven't gotten the date to go with the outfit. LOL.

I also don't listen to music... just shower, make up, dress, hair and go. And I don't like to show up early.. so I try to get there right on time or a couple minutes late. What I wore this past thursday on a first date will probably work for most first date.. and I'll keep that in mind. But I'm still waiting for that date where i can where my new dress... Otherwise I have a lot of stuff that i feel comfortable in....

Oh, and if I have alcohol around the house.... i might take a shot before getting out of the car....lol. That helps take the edge off.

Anyway, i'm not found of first dates either... so that's why i like the bar scene to tell you the truth... I know I'll have a good time whether i meet someone or not... on a first date... hmmm ... ya just don't know how it will go....

Good thread. Clothes wise it depends what our first date will be. If it's dinner; a dress, if it's coffee; a pair of jeans. Hot; cold, basically the mood I am in.

However, the ritual, is somewhat more time consuming. I usually do something special for myself, always a mask for hair and face, I've done a manicure or pedicure, a definite always s an oil bath with loads of different oils and candles in my garden tub, new razors to shave every darn hair, then i get out and oil myself with the same stuff I used for the bath. A major eyebrow check, my hair and make up take about 90 minutes at least. So my entire date night procedure takes about 3-4 hours in total. However, its not only the first date, but depending on how much time I have, it's each date. But a few things I leave out, depending how often I see him and then it cuts down to 2 hours. Sexy underwear to boot that only I KNOW I'm wearing. Makes me feel confident. :) Then I'm off to the races..........

I shower/shave everything early in the morning. My hair is incredibly thick, so it takes a LOT of time to dry naturally. After that, I play my music all day, or if I'm at work, simply stay busy.

If my date is after work, I'll wear something I've gotten compliments on- I like color, so I'll play that up a little, and I actually like a lot of my work clothes as date clothes- nothing too trendy, showy, or flashy, they fit me well, and since I wear them regularly, I know I'll be comfortable at a date in them.

If it's a weekend or very casual place, I typically wear my favorite jeans with a fun top, and cute sandals or heels.

I usually don't think too hard about what I'm wearing, but music is playing, and sometimes I'll have a beer while getting ready. I start moisturizing about an hour before I need to put my makeup on. Moisturizing actually takes longer than my makeup, and my hair takes about twenty to thrity minutes, depending on what I do with it. Makeup takes about five, and then I'm good to go.

I typically don't get ready with a friend, but if it's a new guy or new clothes, I might take a pic and email it to her for her input. I do have a friend who lives around the corner, so if I'm really nervous, I'll stop by her place for face to face input.

I haven't dated anyone new in some time now, so even though my routine hasn't changed much for time with funnyguy, my nerves have.

Moody, who's a casual type of gal

What a great topic! I love reading everyone else's thoughts on this.

I've only been on one first date since being single again. I had just bought this cute top and skirt that made me feel great when I tried it on. So that's what I wore.

Getting ready for a date, I've been playing some of my favorite up beat music. I always have candles lit in my bathroom and kitchen while I'm getting ready.

It may sound strange but before I get ready, I also do a little yoga. It gets me centered and calm and puts everything else out of my head so I can enjoy the night.
