Thinking of Loony's post about her promotion (yay Loony!), I'm just wondering how flexible your boss is?

My boss is THE best boss. Any time I need time off no matter what it is there are no questions asked. I'm a dependable, responsible employee and don't take advantage of it. I have been at this job for 17 years! Has lasted longer than my marriage.

Well... I 'am' the boss, so taking time off isn't really an issue.

My company has a very good vacation/personal/sick/floating holiday time off policy.

It's basically a matter of going through your department head.

I've gone through a few flexibility changes over the years... some good and sometimes not so good... depends on the boss... really....

Currently, i'm working a very flexible shift on MY part... nights until we find a new person... I work in television (behind the scenes) so during the sweep months i CANNOT take time off unless it is an emergency... but rarely do i get turned down if i turn in a request at least 2 days in advance. My current boss is really cool.... and everyone seems to understand that we are down one person ...

But there have been times (my previous boss who left in July) where i've been lectured about my time off causing the whole department to suffer... whatever, i thought, i had my priorities.... finding a place to live or work.. yea, i think the temporary need to find a place to live is more important...

I've had two babies with this company too.. And i had very good maternity benefits... much to the dismay of my previous boss.... He didnt' understand until his wife had a baby, then he was always taking off at the last minute if the baby got sick..... I'm very thankful that he is gone and excited about the new team.

I can pretty much get ANY shift off, even last minute. Sure, my boss is good b/c she lets us, but mostly its the other nurses. We ALWAYS pitch hit (or is it "pinch" hit? lol) for each other ... its GREAT!~
