Every time you try and get logical and make a solid factual decision a speculative thought enters into your head. Exactly!
I just thought of something in the last hour. I dont think Ron can be aware of the amount of money at hand here. So I think it would be wise of my Dad to not mention any of the amounts to him ever.
Good point, City. I was wondering that too. IMO it would be best if Ron did not know the amount of money involved.
I really like the idea of using some of it to cover any medical and funeral expenses and bills. He could give to Ron and let Ron deal with it. Because your dad is the beneficiary it seems to make sense that he take some and put it away for his retirement and your family. I also think the time factor is a good one- 10 years and 14 years, split it that way.
I guess that in the long run the best decision is one that your dad can feel good about. And holding onto it in an account (exeppt for some to cover expenses) while he gets to feel more certain sounds really wise.
I totally understand your fire to fight Ron if he gets nasty. After he stepped in with David knowing a family was involved I would be angry and hurt too, knowing what your dad went through.

Another thing that crosses my mind is that Ron never would have called to tell your dad that David died if it weren't for the money.

It occurs to me that when my Dad tells Ron what he intends to do in distributing the money he might get a series of nasty responses.
I agree and this might be a good reason for your dad to have his lawyer write up the plan. That way Ron will have to go through
and I swear to god my response RIGHT AWAY was " That thieving queen wouldnt call you for 8000 dollars, get real" and then I had to apologize because I saw the look on his face
It's amazing how things under the surface jump up and get us to say nasty things. I am so gulity of that sometimes but the venom in it feels good a the moment. Don't feel bad about that!
