Rent a Friend

It seems like you ladies give fantastic opinions and comments...so I'd love to hear what you think about this. Happy Friday!

So here's a little bit of a different spin on dating...if you wanted someone to take you around town or just have a casual dinner, would you be willing to pay for a friend? I saw this article about renting a friend, and truthfully, it doesn't sound half bad! Expensive maybe but...if you had the money to burn, would you rent a friend? Would you encourage other friends to do it?

Or maybe you'd be the friend for hire?

Feeling lonely? Rent a friend!

No way in h***. This is just beyond sad. I'd rather be alone than with someone who I've PAID to keep me company. This is capitalism at its worst. What are we going to be buying next? A 'bridegroom for a day' service so that I get to experience being a bride? Thanks but NO thanks.

I could kind of see this if you were traveling to a strange city & didn't know anyone and wanted someone to show you around, but in your own city, that's kind of sad. I mean you could join meetup groups, do volunteer work and join clubs--so there are plenty of opportunities to meet someone for free.

It sounds mostly like hiring a tourguide or something when you are out

To me thats different. Hiring a tour guide is one thing ... a movie buddy is another! lol

"The first movie I saw by myself was "Philadelphia Story" with Tom Hanks."

I love love love that movie, Lee. I think I cried a bucket at the end, too. I see what you mean about the crying. DH and I saw Grand Torino last year and I swear, I have never cried so hard over a movie. DH was kind of like "what's your deal?" LOL. My uncle had just passed away, and I don't think I'd had a good cry about him yet, so it all came out at the movie. In retrospect, I wish I would have seen it alone so I could have sat in the back of the theater and just let the blubbering come out, instead of trying to swallow it all back in.

Good advice. I'll have to remember that. ;)
