I was going to post this earlier in the week, but found that it was just too painful, and I needed a little more time.

You awoke because he called you in the night. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. He wouldn't have died until you said goodbye. I've heard it happen all the time and I experienced it in the most emotional way with my cat of 21 years, who waited all day for all of us to arrive. Wouldn't even pass away until all my kids got home and then she lifted her head slightly to look at all of us. I carried her in my arms and we all said goodbye and she passed away. It was an incredible feeling of life passing in my arms. Very emotional, but your story tells me what a wonderful dog he was. How painful it must have been for him, but he died with you by him and that made him a happy dog seeing you for the last moments.

I'm just catching up and just found this post. I am so sorry. I know the sadness of losing a dear pet and friend. I am sending you all the virtual tissues and hugs and chocolates.
May Riki always live in your heart, and may his spirit always
I think you're right, although I'm sure that small dog owners would disagree.
Thanks, Cat.
Thanks, Pac~Sun.
