Hi to all:
I am back!! I see everyone here had great posts and a great week and our board is doing wonderful!! That brings a smile to my face for sure.
My vacation was good - DS and I went to Maryland - we have family up there on my mom's side and also I had a race (half ironman) as well. My parents went and we rented a house.
All in all it was a nice getaway. I was surprised that DS is so grown up - I took him kayaking and we saw a bald eagle. He paddled the whole time and enjoyed it - not what I was expecting at all. Also we went all around Washington DC - walked about 5 miles each day and rode the subways. I also splurged for us to eat dinner at a nice hotel while we were there.
I guess it is not the typical family vacation - but it did have my parents and some other relatives so that counts as family!! And it was nice to spend so much quality time with DS.
My race went well - I finished - although the bike ride was very tough - I was against the wind the whole way.
I am happy to be back - what is everyone else doing for vacation this year? Any tips for going as a single mom?

Ditto for me on bottling the energy!
Since I have no money until which time I start working (in mid-July probably) right now we are basically vacationing at the park and in our pool. I bought a kid's pool for $20 which is just perfect for my kids. It's bigger than a baby pool but not a big family pool either. It is about 18 inches high, with inflatable sides, and they can just jump in an out easily. It is just enough water for them to have fun in and even swim in without needing lifejackets and all that. It's also a great place for me to put my feet when I'm reading.
We have really been enjoying the summer. But now that you brought it up, I still have plently of summer left after I start working that I could actually plan a little something. The kids are so small though (the girls are 4 and my son is 2) so I don't want it to be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe a couple of day trips. Ideas?

We are packing up the fam and taking a road trip at the end of the month. We leave for 10 days down the pacific coastline. We'll drive from Seattle to San Francisco and then follow the path of the California Missions. There are 21 of them that span the Pacific Coastline and we hope to visit each one. It's a beautiful scenic drive and we plan to take our time stopping at several beaches along the way, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara...when we get to Orange County we'll stop for the obligatory trip to Disneyland, which is celebrating it's 50th anniversary this year...and then we'll leave the kids with the grandparents for a day and D and I will be on our own, visiting my old stomping grounds (Laguna Beach) to relax, unwind, and scope out possible places to have a small wedding next year. (yikes!)
I'm looking forward to the trip and getting a chance to see my mom, brothers and cousins whom I haven't seen since Christmas, and D's family who live only 15 miles from mine. =)
That sounds like the perfect vacation - something for everyone and very interesting. I would love seeing the coast and those missions - and being able to take time for the beach. DL is great for kids - and the fact that the grandparents will spend time with the kids while you get time is even better!
We will love to hear your story when you return!!
It was a heat wave for you guys - so many athletes from your area spoke about it. While it wasn't as cool as I hoped it would be, it was not as hot as here and the wind made it bearable. I had more issues with tired legs after a windy ride!!
My son and I enjoyed the kayaking - what a beautiful area - and we saw a bald eagle and lots of birds. There was a deer (pregnant doe) that came to graze in our cottage yard. We were staying on Ragged Point just outside of Cambridge - very quiet and pretty.
Yeah, there was some wind. I went camping this past weekend and as long as I was in the shade, it felt pretty good. Pool side was good too.
I bet coming from Florida you are used to hot humid weather. We are such weather wienies around here. We panic if a snow flake falls and wilt in the sun if it reaches 90 degrees. No one can drive in the rain here :)
I think that with kids that age, travel is out and luxury days are in!! Being by a pool with you getting to relax is great - what a good idea that you got one.
I remember one of my favorite things when DS was that age was to go to a theme park in AZ where we could ride a train and pet the animals. We also enjoyed staying at a nice hotel in the area that had good activities for kids. Or picnics with friends. Less is more at that age for sure.
Hi Lisa,
Welcome - it is great to see you posting here. I like your website!!
Congrats on the new grand daughter!! What kind of racing do you do? I see that your SO lives away - will you two get to vacation together at all?
