Single Mom's Vacation

Hi to all:

I am back!! I see everyone here had great posts and a great week and our board is doing wonderful!! That brings a smile to my face for sure.

My vacation was good - DS and I went to Maryland - we have family up there on my mom's side and also I had a race (half ironman) as well. My parents went and we rented a house.

All in all it was a nice getaway. I was surprised that DS is so grown up - I took him kayaking and we saw a bald eagle. He paddled the whole time and enjoyed it - not what I was expecting at all. Also we went all around Washington DC - walked about 5 miles each day and rode the subways. I also splurged for us to eat dinner at a nice hotel while we were there.

I guess it is not the typical family vacation - but it did have my parents and some other relatives so that counts as family!! And it was nice to spend so much quality time with DS.

My race went well - I finished - although the bike ride was very tough - I was against the wind the whole way.

I am happy to be back - what is everyone else doing for vacation this year? Any tips for going as a single mom?

CHEERS!

SO and I will enjoy vacation here where I live because my daughter is having her baby anytime. But yes last year we got to spend 10 days together and I was sad at the end. I hve been in a Long distance relationship for the last 3 years and it is hard. But SO is so very worth the time and energy.

How far apart do you guys live? How did you meet? Is there a light at the end of your tunnel? You have done well to keep it for so long. You two look happy in your pix!!

We met at a party thrown by mutual friends. We live 2 hours apart and well I have at least 4 years before I can move to be closer to him. Well we take turns on weekends traveling either way. Yes we are happy but some days are better that others.

That is great that it is only 2 hours apart and you can see him on weekends. For some reason I thought maybe a plane ride was needed.

But I know you must miss the spontaneity of grabbing a meal together during the week.

Hang in there. And keep posting with us. Your story is interesting.

This summer will be spent packing and going to the pool. I have already taken almost all my vacation time last April for the 3 weeks on my own and almost another week starting tomorrow. My flight leaves in the morning and I will be arriving at 5 pm EST. These 6 days I will try to spend doing what has to be done, but also enjoying a bit more of "ME" time, without the guilt of having to entertain my Aunt, Cousin, or Scott's Mom. I want to spend a day at the beach. Do something, anything and just relax. I don't know if it'll be lonely then or not, but I won't worry about it. I could see my cousin and my aunt if things get boring, but I doubt I will. I want to get a book and just read and sun myself. As for the kids and single mommy stuff. The community pool is being used to the great extent. My girls love it and they are the perfect angels out their. I love just sitting back and relaxing by the pool and they have a great time playing either by themselves or friends. Europe has gorgeous community pools. They are usually full of trees and grass everywhere. The only concrete is the pool itself. Otherwise, it's just green green green and very relaxing. I will miss that here. We haven't taken a vacation in YEARS anywhere and therefore we head for the pool, but because it's so great, we don't really miss a vacation spot. We have been living most of our lives at vacation spots, so we don't really miss anything. We are moving to yet another vacation spot, so we have it all year around. We enjoy just doing stuff low key. I want to take the girls to the mountains to a cabin sometime, but probably in the spring next year for a 4 day weekend. It's not that far, only 7 hr drive. I could drive it late night and get their mid morning. I am sure they would love it. Otherwise when we move to NC, it'll be beach beach beach and I have plans go see Dolphins with them and teach them to fish.
That is about it.
