SO slept on the couch last night ...

because he wouldn't stop snoring!!!
This has actually been going on all year, but it seems it is getting worse. Actually,he really doesn't snore all that loud, but it's hard because I am a VERY light sleeper.
Last night I snapped because it wasn't just his snoring that woke me up. The dope put a load of laundry in the dryer just before going to bed! And ofcourse, 50 minutes later it buzzed! AND!!! he set it to permanent press, which means every 10 minutes for an hour the friggin dryer will buzz due to the wrinkle guard. Now, what kind of dufus puts clothes in the dryer on permanent press if he doesn't plan to get up to remove the clothes from the dryer so they don't wrinkle? But I digress...

So, the snoring stopped and I started to drift off, then the dryer buzzed. And I shook him and told him to go take care of it. Then I started to drift off again, and the snoring started. UGH!! Then just as I started to drift one more time, the dryer buzzed again. I SNAPPED! I jumped out of bed, pulled all the clothes out of the dryer and dumped them on D. I was in tears and I told him that if he started to snore again I would seriously hurt him. I was so frustrated. He said he was sorry and went and slept on the couch and I felt like a total butt the rest of the night.

We made up this morning, but I need some serious help. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to relieve the snoring or how to sleep through it? I can't do ear plugs. Anyone know of any herbal remedies that induce sleep? The snoring is not horrible...I just can't sleep through it.

Help?

Awww, I am SO sorry for your frustration (and I had to giggle at reading that you dumped all the laundry on him in bed. LOL!)

Couple thoughts.

1) No help for a guy who puts clothes in the dryer to buzz while sleeping. lol

2) Melatonin pills are what I use to sleep. They help take the edge off of MY easily-awoken sleep cycle. Help me drift off, but NO "hang over" or medicine feeling. You can buy them at pharmacy near the vitamins for dirt cheap. I take 2 (or sometimes 3. Shhhh) The bottle says one or two before bed.

3) On SO's snoring. Is it usually a little bit of a problem? Would he consider seeing a doc about his adenoids? I say this because Ty has always had a little bit of snoring and odd sleep behaviors, and they think removing his will help that (along with many other issues) and we're doing it next week. Just a thought.

Help...

Okay...2 things:

1) Explore the source of his snoring with a doctor or at the very least through some online research. Maybe there is an easy fix.

2) Look at the noise the same way I do the crumbs on the floor from my son running around the kitchen eating brownies. You can get incredibly mad or you can thank God you have a son to make such a mess. In your case, it is better to have a warm, loving body beside you that makes a little noise than to have an empty, quiet bed.

I think you should explore the possibilities - what to do to cure the snoring and what to do so you can sleep. I would try the ear plugs for a few nights.

Hopefully your dear loving warm companion body will learn a lesson about the dryer - seriously - that is a total guy thing!! I hope you can fix it so it doesn't do that again. I would put a sticky note that shows he should set it for 50 minutes - not those crazy automatic settings.

HOpe this helps. I can understand your frustration - it is hard to fall back asleep when you are awakened.

Thanks to both of you! Ofcourse, I am greatful for my SO. I would rather have him there snoring next to me than 1000 peaceful nights. This morning he came in with a white flag and a cup of coffee, and told me he was sorry about the dryer. LOL I told him I was sorry too and we talked about what to do.

SO is open to anything. He even purchased a special pillow on the internet today to stop him from snoring. Bless him. I know he doesn't do it on purpose! But when it's 1am in the morning and you're still awake and this is the 4th night this week you've gotten less than 5 hrs of sleep, it's starts to get frustrating! He is going to go see his doctor, because it does appear to be getting worse.

The straw that broke the camel's back was the buzzing dryer. I mean COME ON! The dryer has 4 different settings. One is purposely set to buzz every 10 minutes to remind you- It''s the permanent press, wrinkle guard mode. The last set of laundry I did before him was set to the 60 minute time cycle, so he had to have purposely set it to wrinkle guard...which is what makes absolutely no sense. He's learned his lesson on that one!

West, I can't use earplugs because my ears are very sensitive and prone to irritation anytime I put something in them. I suffer something awful from swimmer's ear when I swim too, but I using plugs just makes it worse. But I am going to try the Melatonin Becky suggested. Thanks Bec!
I had heard about that stuff once before but wasn't sure if it would work. I'll give it a try! I've use Tylenol PM before which has worked great, but then I'm groggy in the morning and I don't want to be dependent on those.

Thanks again for the tips!

Whoever thought of that dryer setting should be SHOT!!

Anyway, I just thought of a trick I use when I can't get to sleep on a night before a race. I drink a small glass of wine.

I know you wouldn't want to do that on a daily basis, but it works for me and the effects are long gone before morning.

I can understand your frustration - 4 nights of interrupted sleep is hard on anyone. You poor thing!!

Great Idea! I'm not much of a drinker so a small glass might just do the trick...ofcourse that would probably lead to sex...but HEY! If that is what is interrupting my sleep I won't complain!

You just gave me a brilliant idea! Rigorous exercise or sex! That should put me into a deep uninterruptable sleep! I'm sure D would be open to that idea! HA!
