sometimes you gotta go w/ the flow

So the past few days I've had reason to be hanging w/ my X in-laws. XFIL is still acting like I stink, but XMIL is just ignoring him and behaving as she always did with me. We had some interesting talks. On Sat S16 had his end of year piano recital. I arrived first, then S16 showed up w/ his grandparents. S16 came to sit w/ me then XMIL joined us. XFIL chose to sit in the row behind us, but as we got to talking about D4's upcoming dance recital, which PsychoBoy had yet to mention to them, S16 got up to be on the end of the row and insisted his grandfather join us. So he did, said hello to me. S16's duet was first up on the program and about 2/3 of the way through, OW and her daughter make their entrance. She couldn't just slip in, she had to make a disturbance. As S16 is taking his bow, PsychoBoy walks in w/D4. Sigh. You see, on his weekends, he goes to OW's house and leaves S16 w/ his parents. Anyway after S16 performed his second piece, his solo, PsychoBoy left w/ D4. OW's daughter gets up to leave with him but OW pulls her back. She waits for two more kids to play them makes her EXIT as in kept looking back to see what? if we noticed her leaving? The really weird thing is, there I am sitting w/ S16 and PsychoBoy's parents on one side of the auditorium and he and OW are on the total opposite side, completely by themselves, like they were banished or something. At the reception XMIL was not shy about how much she can't stand OW. We talked about the situation w/ S19, and as usual there are the excuses, but what it really boiled down to is she just can't deal with her son's rages, so she just avoids situations where he ( or her husband) willl get set off. We agree he needs psychiatric help, but with OW being a total enabler, he'll never admit he has a problem.
Today they took D4 to her dance class and I met them there with her tap shoes. D4's cousin(PsychoBoy's sister's daughter) was there, she still calls me Aunt, and we all had a fun time watching D4 do the rehearsal for this dance recital. They got their costumes today and D4's cousin, H, who is now 12 and a veteran of dance recitals, was cluing us in on how we have to fit the straps and adjust the hair piece.
So I feel better about the situation my kids are in with that half of their family. Eventually they'll all come around and realize it's better to maintain their relationships w/out their son's approval or knowledge. XMIL was dreading he'd show up at the dance class while I was there. I said so what? I'm allowed to be at any of my children's activities, so is he. She really does not see that by walking on eggshells around him she too is an enabler.
We're off to OH tomorrow, so I'll be MIA from the board for a while.

Have fun in OH. Sounds like your XMIL is being good. I liked this one, "At the reception XMIL was not shy about how much she can't stand OW." hahaha!!

I wonder how long til the OW has enough of Psychoboy?

OW stands for "Other Woman" as in "mistress" or "affair partner".....
