So I have this function thingamajig to go to. Got the perfect dress (hello, a Jessica McClintock on CLEARANCE for $42 - originally $320!!!!!!) and I look like a ghost in it. Casper. So white I'm blue. Seriously.

REALLY wanted to tan. But my dad has had numerous malignant tumors removed, and even had to undergo some radiation. My skin is exactly like his - and I'm so moley, some of my moles are "suspicious" - I should avoid tanning as if it's the plague. But I wanted color . . .

The dress is a backless halter style - so I didn't trust myself to get an even application on my back with my sunless tanning lotion that I use quite often.

Went and did the spray on Mystic Tan!

HELLO! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It took about - oh - ten minutes. Patted dry, put my clothes on, went home and went to bed. Woke up this morning, jumped in the shower, scrubbed up, stepped out of the shower, and I have the most beautiful, golden, streak free, even, SAFE, TAN! I LOOK FANTASTIC! GLOWING!!!!!!!!

I got to work this morning, and friend commented "WOW! You look GREAT! Did you get your hair high lighted? New makeup? You look so healthy and rested!" HAHA! I laughed and said "Mystic Tan, baby!" And she was SHOCKED! "NO WAY!! YOU DO look tan, but not orange, not red, totally natural! WOW!"

WOW IS RIGHT!!!!!!

I called TT and told him I want a membership - I wanna do this every week! I LOVE THIS!

This sounds very wonderful - tell us more about Mystic Tan - this is a service? How do they put it on? How long does it last? How much does it cost?

I think you are smart to stay out of the sun. It really ages your skin never mind the moles and cancer issues!!

Speaking of thingamajigs, I have to go to one too. It's a cocktail party to benefit some large donors for a non-profit I volunteer for. I am not a cocktail party person. I found a little black dress on sale, nothing special like a name brand dress. Now I have to figure out my hair, find some jewelry and some shoes. I am trying to spend as little as possible, so I'll probably buy some payless shoes, but my poor arthritic feet are going to be killing me afterward. Doesn't that make me sound old? I hate that.

Anyway, I never tan either. I am always pale, even in the summer. I just don't seem to care what people think. I wear shorts and they say I'm blinding them, and I reply back that I was born this way and I stay out of the sun because it's a healthy choice to do so. I feel like I'm bucking the system and I like that. But I have never heard of mystic tan. How much did it cost? How long does it last?

Mystic tan is a spray on tan that you can get done at most tanning salons.

To put it on. You strip down. You apply "barrier cream" to the areas that are prone to over tanning. The tops of your feet. Your hands. Your cuticles. Your toes. You put a little hair net thingy on. You step into a booth. You stand there in a little pose - and you push a green button. You close your eyes lightly, take a deep breath in, hold your breath, and there are 3 little jets that spray a tanning myst solution (mystic tan uses an extract from apples - the stuff in apples that make them brown, not carrot oil, so you are brown, not orange) you all over for 15 seconds. It stops. You turn around and face the back, assume the little pose, it sprays your back.

You get out of the booth and use paper towels to wipe off your hands, fingers, and toes. Then you use a regular towel and pat yourself dry. No contact with water, lotion, or alcohol anywhere on your body for 4 to 6 hours. After 4 to 6 hours, you shower (to get the immediate bronzing stuff off) and that's it! It fades in 5-9 days.

The cost - it cost me $30 for a one time session. You can (OF COURSE!) by monthly tanning sessions at tanning salons so you get a little bit of a break on the cost. And this, of course, varies from salon to salon and I'm sure region to region. My friend gets it done in L.A. and pays $10 a session.

Do you have a DSW shoe store there?

I went to Payless (my favorite store!) and couldn't find anything suitable - everything was too high or had too much of a platform or whatever. I tried Target (found a pair of shoes I REALLY, REALLY WANT, but not what I needed! LOL!) A friend recommended DSW shoes - I had never been.

Found the CUTEST, most amazing shoes on clearance for $18!!!! Cheaper than ANYTHING I had seen at Payless! LOVE THEM!

I hope you have a great time at your party!

I explained all about the Mystic Tan in another post.

And I LOVE being tan. I was a lifeguard for years, had a pool as a child, lived on the lake every summer for years . . . I know it's terrible, I know it's not healthy - but I love it. I HATE being so white I'm blue!

I cannot tell a lie.

No. It stinks! LOL! It has an apple fragrance - but it's completely unable to overpower the chemical smell. Which stinks! I took a shower and scrubbed this morning - but I can still smell it on me. I asked my friend to smell me and she can't smell anything . . . but *I* can smell it!

Hey, thanks for posting about Mystic Tan. I was wondering if that was any good or not. I can't tan, but hate being so sickly white in the summer time. I think I'll try that for myself. Thanks!!!

WOW! I've never heard of anyone that actually DID it. They offer this at my salon, and there's an "instructional video" that keeps running in a constant loop on how to do it. Putting the cream on your fingers and toes, and putting on the foot protection and putting in the nose dealie and putting on the cap and blah blah blah...and I thought WHAT a pain in the BUTT for something you can do at home.

No clue that it was so superior to home tanning.

Also, it makes me think of Ross on "Friends" when he gets hit with the spray THREE TIMES on his front and none on his back. ROTFLMAO!!!!!

I have been to DSW before, but usually spent $30-$40 for shoes, I was hoping to find them for $10 somewhere, but if there is nothing at Payless, I'll try DSW next. Thanks :)

As a regular at home tanner - I can tell you it's SOOOOOO much simpler and the results are SOOOO MUCH BETTER!

I LOVE that episode of Friends! Member how great Monica looked? Yeah, I look great like Monica (well, not great like Courtney Cox, but tan like her!) LOL! Seeing that episode of Friends was a good lesson - as I knew, as I was standing there waiting for it to start spraying again - that it would take a little longer than it should and to NOT TURN AROUND! LOL!

LOVE IT!
