Summer plans - vacations, camp, plans?

What is everyone doing for the summer with their kids --

Are you able to plan any vacation with your kids?
Does their father take them for any time in the summer?
Do you have a good summer camp picked out yet?
What are fun and cheap activities you do during summer with your kids?

I can't believe this school year has almost come to an end. Would love to hear what everyone has planned.

Well, Nicolas goes to visit his father's parents for the summer, and his dad has to see him there.

We live not too far from a zoo, and Hershey Park, so I'm hoping to take a couple of three day weekends and take a couple of short road trips with the kids.

This will be the first year Catie's really old enough to do the same things Android can do, so it should be fun.

His father usually takes him on a camping trip for a couple of weeks, but other than that, they're mine, all mine.

I won't be able to take an official vacation this year, since I need my time for my dad and his illness, but I like to just take shorter trips and do day-trip type things with the kids at these ages, anyhow.

We go mini-golfing, for ice cream, catch lightning bugs, count stars... most of the best things we do together cost very little or nothing. Summer is a magic time for kids, and summer in the country is the best. They love to hear the corn grow, so we always make an event out of that...

I love summer, I just wish spring would hurry up and get here!

Are you able to plan any vacation with your kids?
We usualy go to Walt Disney World every year, but this year and probably
next year no vacation. I am desperately trying to save up to buy my first
home, which in NY is almost next to impossible because of the super expensive
prices. I am so bummed out by this, so I'm not looking forward to summer at all.

Does their father take them for any time in the summer?
I wish, he almost never spends any time with her. I would give my left...
just to have a day to myself.

Do you have a good summer camp picked out yet?
I have no choice in this one as I can't leave her home alone all
day, it's $2000.00 I wish I didn't have to spend, but she loves it and
it is a good camp.

What are fun and cheap activities you do during summer with your kids?
In NY there is almost no such thing. You need lots of dough to do stuff here
and the really good stuff(out of NY) you need a car to get to. I don't have a car,
so we're basically stuck with doing nothing. I wish I had a yard at least to bbq and stuff, that why I'm desperate to buy a house. The yard is my#1 priority, so were not stuck home roasting.

Hi Taina,

It is great that you have set a goal to save for your house. I know the early days of having to put so much away on a tight budget are hard. A trip to Disney is fun while you are there but a house will last so much longer and you will gain equity. It is good that you are setting this example for your kids.

I hope that the housing prices will fall a bit and that you will find your dream house when you are ready - with a big yard for bbqing!!

Thanks for your words of encouragement. It's like I explained to my daughter, if sacrifices aren't made then we can't get the house. It's going to be hard, but I'm hoping that by keeping our eye on the prize we can get through it. I'm feeling very depressed and burnted out today, and quite frankly my annual vacation was the only thing that kept me sane. I'm just praying that the summer passes by very quickly.
