The suspense is killing me....

My daughter had an Algebra test today and I can't wait to see how she did. I am hoping she did a lot better than she expected to during our conversation last week. She has no confidence with math not to mention algebra and she claims she has been lost in what they are studying. Last semester, she was believing that she was flunking algebra and pulled a B out of it. When it comes to algebra I am absolutely no help at all. I just looked at it last night and got a headache, course I didnt' tell her that! They are graphing linear equations. I don't remember having anything like that, but then again I didn't go too far in algebra.

She is begging me to put her into this other algebra class...kind of like pre-algebra. I told her let's wait and see how she does today.

One thing I like about her new school is I can go online and see her grades to date, but UGHHHH, it hasn't been posted yet. I hope it doesn't take the teacher long to get it posted. I was sending good vibes to her during the test time. If she does get a decent grade on it, I think I'm going to suprise her with a concert ticket to 3 Days Grace. I'M PRAYING, PRAYING, PRAYING!!!!

Okay fingers crossed.

And I know what you mean about the math. I used to be very strong in math - but the stuff he brings home now makes my eyes glaze over - is very different from what we used to have.

These look very helpful Soonee, THANKS for taking the time to post them. You are SOOOO the Master Googler!

DD had trouble last year and told me that the teacher wasn't teaching from the book but would show them her own way. So when she would refer to the book it was different. This is the reason I'm considering the move to the pre-algebra class offered, but still would like to see what her teacher tells me before making a decision. DD is a little like me in that she has to be shown how to do something. Once she is shown, she can usually pick it up.

I noticed an Algebasics on the hoagies site...I might have to take that just to prove to myself that I can do it!! If nothing else, it would be a little exercise for the old noggin.

No word yet. Yesterday afternoon my dd reminded me that her teacher did say that whatever grade she got would not count for her or against her. I think the teacher is getting a feel for what level DD is at. I fired off an email to the teacher yesterday and asked her to get in touch with me. If I'm going to get tickets I need to know what's going on soon as the event is on the 21st of this month. For her, it would be HUGE because she's never been to a concert. I'm having to dig a little for $$ but I think it would be money well spent.

I knew my DD had dyscalculia when she could grasp the Pythagorean Theorem in a flash, and created a new strategy for solving adult sudoku puzzles by herself, but couldn't remember whether subtraction went up or down, and took years to

I've never heard of dyscalculia. That's very interesting. The brain is so complex but yet simple. Does one think more with the left side or the right side.

Several months ago I read an article about teens and they are finding that the cells in the frontal lobe of a teenager are not fully developed and that is the "reasoning" area of the brain. This would help explain why teens cans act so irrationally at times. A friend of mine has had to put her husband in a care facility because he has been diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia and a lot of times acts out with "teenage" behavior. His reasoning is totally off the wall. Bad thing is physicians don't really know how to treat it exactly. One medication may work for a week or so, then all of a sudden it stops working and they have to try something else.
