sweet jesus three days no school!

OK I just have to write this down and vent. Good god I know snow and ice can be a b**** but three days in a row off school and I work at home so I am starting to really snap a bit. I just made a mental note to come up with three activities my kid can do around me that need minimal supervision and wont cant shouldnt catch on fire. Is anyone else dealing with this? What do people do when they dont work at home and this happens? Lose work or take leave or find a sitter? I play violin for a living and it is really hard to practice with a little one coming in looking for interaction every 5 minutes. Also, whereas my mastiff puppy at five months is super laid back and will sleep on my toes most of the day while I play violin, now he is feeding off the eight year old boy energy and the two of them are being wacko while I try and prepare for concerts coming up. Not a great combo!! My ex would LOVE to help cant get here until after school hours even though these are his visitation days because he is...you guessed it...working. When oh when is spring coming?
Sorry for the rant:) I do feel better though somehow.

City, yeah. This is the third day off for us, too. We got a lot of snow too.
I am off again today, simply because driving the kids in the snow to the sitter's makes about as much sense as having school- and they'd be safer on a school bus than in my car. So, I take the day off if they have it off because of the weather.
Yesterday wasn't too bad, but I did bring some work home because I was trying to plan ahead. I didn't get any of it done, so we'll see if I can manage today to do some of it. Another thing that drives me batty when the kids are home all day is the housework- I normally do it after they're in bed and on weekends. When we're home during the week, I'm flabbergasted by how much mess they make, how many dishes they dirty, how many clothes they wear!
Since we usually leave the house at 7:45am and return at 7:45pm, they don't normally have the opportunity to make that much of a mess during the week, so it's easy for me to spend an hour getting things back in order. When they're here, I feel like I either spend all day cleaning, or ignore it. Cleaning would be a lot like getting out there to shovel while it's still snowing a couple of inches an hour. It might make things easier when it's all over with, but you'll never get done.
So anyhow, yeah, I know what you're dealing with- except that I don't normally work from home. This makes it even more difficult, since I need to be aroun adult people. If our power went out, that's when I'd have real issues- I can't imagine not having internet and being stuck at home!
It's so cool that you play the violin- I took lessons years ago, and have always kept mine. I simply love the sound of a violin, but never got very good at it. I should bust out my sax and spend some time with that today!

I have always worked from home so I know your pain. The good thing about no school is maybe there is a bigger kid on your street who can entertain them for a few hours for minimal pay? That is what I did when DS was little. Now he has friends on the street and video games and no school for us is just as easy as school, although a little messier in the house!
Sounds like you need to crate the puppy or keep him away for a bit.
Good luck to you!
I have crated the puppy a few times but I wish I didnt have to. He simply needed it yesterday just to calm down. We live in a two bedroom which is fine most of the time and I love it but it feels tight when everyone is home running around and I need to be working. Anyhow, hopefully the streets will be clear by next week!!
I guess the other thing is that I am just at the memorization stage of my work right now for a concert coming up and I have to say - learning something by memory in a situation like this is pretty impossible. I decided late yesterday to just concentrate on something else because that work was getting me nowhere!
Thanks for the support you guys!!
I hear you about the mess. I was marveling about that yesterday too. Yesterday, I made my son do a give away project in his room so we can take stuff to the shelter on Monday. At least that has him clearing out rather than messing up. I just gave him two boxes with no and yes written on them. For some crazy reason he seemed to enjoy this and then I helped him clean up his room a little further after that partly in hopes of pupy proofing his space for today so I can throw them both in there. hee hee we'll see.
But yes, normally I clean up after bedtime and a bit in the morning to keep things neat. I have a habit of putting the dishwasher on and a load of wash right before I leave to take him to school. I just have trouble mixing my work day with chores. If I start on the chores ebfore I know it I get this weird urge to take it too far and refinish the floors or something rather than get my violin in. HAH.
Thanks for the post of support. My kid is so excited to be out again today and I am trying to fake it for him:)
