Background....a guy I dated for almost 3 years - a relationship the was sometimes very good but when it was bad it was really bad.

I agree with the others and I think Moons response is perfect.
I do think what you wrote is valuable though - it is just that it is more valuable for YOU than anyone else so I think you should keep it. Those are your thoughts and feelings about letting someone and something go. You obviously loved him and you have a myriad of feelings about the time you spent together. All of that is important and I think many times what we write to other people should be a diary entry rather than what we actually send them. So I vote keep what you wrote for you and copy and paste Moon's response and press send.
