I have been in your shoes and it sucks! Can you file contempt charges? Are these arrangements court ordered? If so, you might consider filing a modification for child support. If he makes more than you or his income has gone up since the original court orders, you might be entitled to support. It all depends on how the laws work in your state.
I used to get so mad when I was stuck with medical bills that he didn't pay his half. I paid every penny of my son's braces. ($5K) I was working my butt off to keep them current and he was taking trips to Disneyworld!

It sounds to me like what you are doing is not working for you. I would document the bills you have that he should pay and go for child support or to be reimbursed. If he knows you have legal recourse and are not afraid to use it then he will pay and not do that again. Talk to the lawyer tomorrow!!

I am actually going to file a motion to modify and get him to help pay for school lunches and see if I can get him to pay off the remaining $200 of our daughter's bill since all the other bills I've paid equal about that counting my son's inhaler prescriptions.

I don't think he is allowed to claim zero - because his records show he is capable of $45K and that is what they will base it on. I definitely think you need to go back to court. You cannot allow this to go on and on or it will become habit.

I think you should demand half the bills - not just the $200 - have you been keeping records? I would also allow him to pay it first - I would show him the amount he is in arrears and say you can pay it now - or I will be forced to legally modify the situation.

Who gets to claim the kids as dependents on their income tax return? When I had custody of my son and he had my daughter my attorney came up with a way to alleviate the unpaid bills. She set it up that if either person was delinquent in support or medical bills the other one could claim BOTH kids. He had to sign a release of exemption and she held it. I had to provide documentation (easy to do) that he was delinquent in both support and medical bills.
I got to claim both kids 2 years in a row. My ex is not the brightest crayon in the box...

I would type up a list of the expenses your ex owes and mail it to him with a note saying he's got 30 days or you will seek payment through the court.

Isn't there a rule that if you can't find him, you can serve a member of his family instead?
