I am so thankful that I found the Single Moms and Dating board here at ivillage. I have found a great community of women who all share the same issues in dating as a single mom as me.
From "when should he meet my kids?" to "how do I meet him?" there is always something to learn and to share.
I have gained great insight as to what a healthy relationship and Mr. Right should look like. I have been able to share stories about online dating, develop a comraderie with women who have shared in my same joys and pain, meet a lot of single moms from all over the world, and gain confidence as an individual.
The best advice I have received here is that you have to be patient and wait for the right person who is into you. And the right person who is into you will also be into your kids!! I have also realized that everyone else is in the same boat and that it is hard for everyone to meet the right person - it has nothing to do with me personally.
Thanks, fivesense!!
Okay girls I am bumping this up to the top. Just write a sentence or two here so we have some good reasons to visit our board!!
The best thing about this board is obviously the great people on it. I have made some wonderful friends over the years. It is nice to have a place to come to and say what's on your mind and know that even if you're ranting and raving, someone's there to listen and offer you a little support.
I came to this board right after I had separated from my ex and I think this board and the people on it really helped me to remember that I was the only one who could determine what my future would be. If I wanted to have a great relationship, I had to first be a great person and only then would I find another great person.
On a lighter note, I think all the stories of dating fiascos and such, really made me know "IT's Not that bad" when I was at a low point. Someone else always seemed to have it a little worse. Helps you not take yourself so seriously!

The greatest thing about this board is the camraderie. We laugh together, we cry together, we lift one another up, we learn from each other's mistakes, and we have created a sisterhood of women from all walks of life who are all facing the same situation: dating as single parents.
When I came to this board, I had given up on dating after a nasty divorce, getting my heart broken by my first serious boyfriend since my divorce, and meeting a (now comical) string of losers along the way. I found other women who have been through the same experiences, and realized it's not just me, and found the courage to try again. I'm still running into a comical string of losers, but at least I can laugh about them now.

I have been on this board 5 years this month. What it has taught me is quite simple: I needed some serious lessons in growing-up.
That often people were able to see what I refused to see and that reflecting on that now, they were only trying to help, because they cared.
I have met some wonderful, wonderful women on here in 5 years. Shed many emotions, tears and made wonderful supportive friends during my duration in Germany and here in N.C.. I am a better person today then I was yesterday and I have a large amount to thank you all for; to help guide me through the roughest of moments.
And that is what the board has done for me.
