DS and I are back. We had so so so so much fun in the alps. I can't believe that we were together 24/7 for 2 weeks and enjoyed every single second of it. No hassles, no disagreements, both of us had so much fun and were a GREAT travel team - maybe because we were both alone without any of the usual distractions. DS learned so much. Every day was a great day. We loved where we were because of the outdoors - hiking, walking, eating. And when we had a bad weather day we took to the trains to see other places. It was great for him to see another culture and way of life. Different foods, different money, different customs. We both also appreciate our life here even more now that we see how good we have it here in the states.

My life has really taken a good turn from this vacation. I have decided to have only good days just like we did there. I know that there are sudden unexpected mishaps in life but you have to try to look at the good of them and work your life around them and do the best with what you have at the moment. Not keep dwelling on the past or being miserable for what you don't have.

I also feel that I have really accepted my "aloneship" right now. I feel like a teenager again. And that is a good thing. I had said to myself when I was in Luzern (the city where I went to school) that this is so amazing that I wanted a European pastry education at such a young age - I marveled at my own wisdom and decisions and willingness to work and take risks. And I really want that frame of mind again. No more thinking of myself as a single mom - that does not define who I am at all.

I am very buried in work and that is a good thing. The puppies are so big we hardly recognized them. School is out and there are kids running in and out - the pleasures of a home office - water and chewed up carrots all over the floor, my shoes added to the doggy chew pile, kids screaming and a customer on the phone - oh dear!! But so lucky for me. I am lucky to have 2 rigorous puppies, a child that everyone on the street clamors at the door to play with, customers calling and the work at home situation.

WELCOME HOME!

I'm glad that the trip went so well, and you and Nicholas were able to have such a great time together.

I recently finished reading a book by Gene O'Kelley "Chasing Daylight."

Judy- Welcome back, both to the board, and home! I'm glad you and DS had a great time!

It sounds like those puppies and those neighborhood kids missed you guys!

Sometimes I think we have to go away, even figuratively, to see how much we appreciate what we have right in front of us. Before you took your vacation, all of the things you describe, the chewed shoes, the kids screaming, the puddles of water, probably would have been annoyances. But now, you're so thankful you have the puppies, the kids to enjoy, even if they do make messes for you- and that's such a wonderful way to look at life.

I'm going to try to start looking at my minor annoyances that way, too- because really, in the grand sceme of things, what's a little melted ice cream when it means Princess Spasticka has had a moment of bliss with Mommy?

moody- who feels like she's had a mini-vacay vicariously (well, mentally, at least!)
