OK, so I can't celebrate GETTING a house yet, as we don't know if our bid will be accepted. It's a VA Foreclosure, and the best/highest bid wins. When we told our realtor what we decided to offer, he said "oh, really. I think you'll get it then" So, that's nice to hear. But still, I won't get my hopes too high.
It's got some superficial work that needs doing (really truly horrible mauve countertops in kitchen and both bathrooms, new paint, new closet doors, etc...) but it's managable for us. My J and I LOVE LOVE LOVE working on things together. We're an unusual couple in that working on a project together draws us closer, and we don't fight. So, this is a great thing for us.
It's a 1700 sq foot bi level with everything I wanted except a fire place, and everything Jas really needed/wanted. And it's about 2 tenths of a mile from the house we were living in and LOVED but couldn't buy a year ago. I live in a reasonably big city, so moving from your neighborhood is like leaving your home. We'd be thrilled to be back there.
It's 3 bedrooms (2 on the lower level-Master bed on upper level) and 2 full bathrooms. Vaulted ceilings in living room with skylights. VERY bright and airy. A more than adequate kitchen with a great pantry. Good cupboards. Overall, I am thrilled.
Picture of outside attached (in my opinion it desperately needs landscaping and the evergreens MUST go...DH however loves them. ACK! I can feel a first "home improvement fight" coming on. I know I said we worked great together. But that's when we roll up our sleeves and get to work. Making the decision on WHAT to do? Well, that's always a different story. LOL. Points for DH though, as I asked him if he was the type to picture where the furniture and such would go, and he said with a big grin "Why bother? Wherever I picture stuff, that's not where you'd put it anyway. That's not my job" LOL!!!! GOOD answer buddy)

Oh Becky - my fingers are crossed for you. The picture is lovely and I like what you write. It sounds like just what you need. And a breath of fresh air for you after all you have been through in these past months.
Keep us posted!!
Thank you! You'll definitely see a TRULY celebrating post from me if/when we get it. (Which we should know in about 2 days)
I forgot to mention an important piece of info here, which is that this will be both mine and Jason's first home purchase. We'll be real grown up's. That's one of those things that you always think you'll "someday be an adult and purchase a house" but when it comes close to actually happening it's VERY exciting. We're both excited. If not this house, it'll be another...
Exactly - if not this house then ANOTHER!
I think it is great that you two work well on projects. This will keep you two busy and out of trouble!!
And yes - you are growing up big time this hear - first the house and then the baby. That is a handful for sure!!
Becky,
The house is beautiful! And the best thing about it, is that with the fixing you do it'll become your home. Just notify the home improvement stores now!
I'm praying for you! Let us know. (which I'm sure you've already been told)
Shannon
Thanks, First and Shannon!
We will know probably by tomorrow (wednesday) either way. Hopefully not today, because I am waiting for BIG deposit to hit my account overnight to be sure the rather large "earnest money" check clears. There was no talking down the VA office on that amount.
The house is adorable! I hope you get it. Congrats in advance for finding it and putting a bid on it. It's gonna be great!
