You are in UT? do I remember that right? My son lives in Park City, he's here for 3 weeks and will be glad he missed that, although he is not liking the pollen count here. In AZ we have 5 seasons: Spring (mid Mar-mid May) which is mild and perfect so our tortoise wakes up and eats the wildflowers, then we get "It's-A-Dry-Heat" summer and the tortoise digs a hole and sleeps through that (til mid July- we're talking 105 in the shade) then it's Monsoon (til mid Sept) and we have thunderstorms starting around 3pm daily- tortoise wakes up and wants back in the house, then Fall when it's mild and perfect again (til mid Nov) then Winter and it snows at least once in my yard- oh, and the tortoise comes in to hibernate in D4's closet all winter.

You are correct. Park City got
Soonee- nope... we haven't had your same crazy weather!!! YOU have hogged it all for yourselves! Some photos of the damage near Ft. Worth yesterday made our daily paper today. You guys can KEEP the storms and crazy weather!!! We want the rain, but not if it comes with the high winds and damage!
We keep ending up on the west side of whatever line moves through- so all the storms fire up east of here- in the DFW area, on through Okla and up into Missouri. For us here in the panhandle... it's been NOTHING but dry, dry, dry. NO storms to speak of. And any rain we get- is just drippy drizzle that doesn't really water anything that needs to grow. It might wash off the dust, and that's about it.

Yes, we have a Sonoran Desert Tortoise for a "pet". He, at least we now think it is a he, was rescued from a dog some years ago by a nurse who worked for PsychoBoy. She brought it in so a co-worker, who has other tortoises and a yard set up for them could take it. Once you touch them, you can't put them back in the wild. Anyway, it was late Nov so PsychoBoy thinks it would be a good birthday gift for S19 (then 12). Wrong, totally freaked out S19, he knows that tortoises are protected and his dad was being secretive about where the tortoise came from. We thought it was female but actually it was just very young. It is named Visa because it would always be underfoot (Everywhere you want to be). I had to build him a little habitat this spring because the dog picked up ticks and we've had to have the house and yard sprayed monthly. They don't make a reptile safe spray for ticks. Actually, I am a bit concerned the tortoise is ill. He is really blah even when it warms up and he woke up way late this year. I feed him rabbit hay and have wildflowers planted in his pen, but he doesn't seem to be eating.I'm going to collect some wildflowers from the part of the yard that I'm sure has never been sprayed and see if he eats that. It's be really sad for him to die, they can live longer than people.
