the wedding was absolutely beautiful...if anyone's been to the Hyatt in Poipu...it's gorgeous and I got several shots (with my old fashioned camera) of me with my kids before the event)...there was a little mess with the leis. The florist had put them in an ice chest and taken them to the preschool where M was going to then take them to the hotel...well, the kids got into them. These are traditional leis and things he had made with flowers he had picked in the mountains. So M rushed to a florist and she did a great job getting professional flowers- what do I know? They seemed better than what I passed up. Then the other crisis is that I couldn't find DD's dress. I thought that I had left it in SF. So by the time it was found, there was no time for ironing it, etc. Oh well. It's just a tad wrinkled. At the beach the officiant is wearing traditional Hawaiian dress and family is starting to trinkle in. My dad is having the hardest time getting through the sand with his gout.
The ceremony begins with her blowing the conch shell and calling the ancestors with a chant in Hawaiian. Then she gives us leis. Then she gets a little native and talks aobut the wars in Hawaii and how our love is part of the healing process of the land and the people. She has people wish us aloha'e. I'm not sure what the e part is. Anyhow...she fills a coconut shell with water and has everyone breath their 'ha' into it then we drink some of it. With the remaining water, she pours it over an offering that she's prepared of flowers inside some leaves that she wraps up. This we're supposed to figure out where to bury. It is an offering of our love to the land, to help it heal and for us to have a physical spot for us to remember our love. (On the last morning we take it and bury it under some rocks on the little cliff there on shipwreck beach). Then we exchange vows and rings. and that was pretty much it. We (just DH and I) then went to Tidepools for dinner in all our wedding finery and the kids went to our cousins' house for a sleepover.
It was gorgeous and if I ever get a hold of pictures, I'll post them somewhere...I think our photographer is supposed to have something online for everyone to see.

Congratulations - it sounds like a very beautiful wedding in a gorgeous place with some trickery thrown in for laughs and good memories. They will talk about those things for much longer than the beauties!!

I laughed when I read the part about the kids getting into the leis - I hope you don't mind that - but it is sort of funny now - although not at the time I am sure. And you losing the dress is cute, too - sounds like something I would do!!

We will love to see pix, of course!!

Congrats, big hugs and best wishes!!
